2006 BMW X3 oil change - How often should this be done?

Hello,

This is my first ever luxury car. I bought it certified this week. I honestly do not have plenty of knowledge about BWM's oil change. Is it safe to have the oil changed every 15000 miles or a year whichever comes first? I know there is an indicator in the car that would tell me. But, what is the recommended practice? Actually I do not know how but I forgot to ask the dealer. Please help me on this.2006 BMW X3 oil change - How often should this be done?If you use Synthetic Oil, (5W-30) BMW says OK to go as high as 15000 miles between oil changes. I prefer to change oil at 10,000 miles, with Synthetic Oil and Oil Filter. BMW also prefers that you have INSPECTION I and INSPECTION II performed at 30,000 mile intervals. That means you need to change your oil at every other INSPECTION. In many countries, the BMW warranty runs for 4 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. Also check what your Owner's Manual says about Oil Service and INSPECTIONS. Some dealers are in tough financial times because of the depression. It is very wise to be sure that your choice of dealers does not fix or repair things that don't need fixing. Ask for an estimate before you sign on the Work Order. The CPO cars have a different set of rules to follow although they should be warranted for another 24000 or 36000 miles. You can also buy an extended warranty. These are very expensive, and will cover your services and repairs with a feeling of security. Don't buy any extra services or warranties that last longer than you plan to keep your CPO car.2006 BMW X3 oil change - How often should this be done?Your car MUST be run on synthetic oil. BMW designed it with that in mind, which is why you see the oil filler cap saying %26quot;BMW Recommends Castrol Synthetic oil%26quot;. This is also how they can design the oil to last 15,000 miles.

There's really nothing wrong with doing your oil change at 15,000 miles EVEN though you WILL need to top up your oil around every 5,000 miles or so.

But most of us enthusiast prefer to play it safe and have at least an %26quot;intermediate oil change%26quot; in between. So I do mine at around 7500 miles. I would also recommend this practice.

The good thing about having this is that you wouldn't need to bother with resetting the service indicator, because you are just doing one extra oil change in between the recommended miles. And most good garages can handle this job fairly easily - as long as you make sure they don't overfill your oil.

There're also a bunch of oils out there people are recommending, but since BMW recommends Castrol, you might wanna check out the latest Castrol Edge 5W-30. http://www.castroledgeusa.com/2006 BMW X3 oil change - How often should this be done? The way it works in simple terms (under the assumption you are going to use BMW filter and oil) 11-14 k miles your service indicator will indicate you vehicle is due for service. In this order you get an oil service then inspection then oil service then finally a inspection 2 then start all over again. If you do not reach your first service within a year then you need to have an oil and filter changed regardless.
