What all does it take to open my own oil change business?

Can I get any grants and How can I get the products for the shop? What all does it take to open my own oil change business?Pay $900 to rent a shop in a local shopping center.

Don't hire any employees until you see how successful you are.

It is not too expensive. You would not even have to own a %26quot;lift%26quot;. Just dig a pit where you can stand under the cars.

YOu will need lots of bottles of oil and a big bucket to drain the old oil. Not much more. You don't even need a cash register to get started.

You can buy your products from a local store. Later, you can order directly from Valvoline and Castrol. Wait until you need large quantities.

Introduce yourself to the local office of the US Dept of Environmental Quality. There are not too many restrictions on you. They worry that you won't dump the oil into the ground. You won't do that. You can prove it to them by providing receipts from the local recyclers.

You can apply at City Hall for help. They have programs to help new businesses get started. They will give you lots of money if you will open in one of the undeveloped parts of the city. There are no grants. What all does it take to open my own oil change business? You'll need a sizable nest egg of your own money. This isn't something you can do on a shoe string. Grants aren't a viable option.

Question about oil change for a Honda Motorcycle?

I have a 1991 Honda XR250 I don't have the manual but I know I can check the oil by filling and checking. But does anyone know or have the manual for how much its supposed to take.Question about oil change for a Honda Motorcycle? Here dude...dont take the word of someone who DOESNT have a manual....just use this link and upload the service manual and find out what it takes.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3Z2R1G11Question about oil change for a Honda Motorcycle?i DONT have a manual, but i've noticed most bikes take around 20 ounces of oil, normally 10w-40.

Also, it probably has an overflow valve or something to let access oil out. so don't go over 24-26 ounces.

Engine check light came on after oil change?

I have a 2002 chevy malibu, the light came on after I got my oil change, but did not notice it until I got home. I took it back to Walmart (where I got the oil change), but they were already closed. I've read from a few sources that I maybe just need to reset it, but I don't have the manual. Does anybody know how to reset or have any other ideas on why the light is turned on?Engine check light came on after oil change?the best and easiest way is to take it to auto zone or advance and let them clear it off with their scanner,it only takes a minute to do,and this way it will stay off, until the next time,or it gets a bad sensor on it,good luck with it.Engine check light came on after oil change?id wait and see if it came on again, then deal with it.good luck.

Engine check light came on after oil change?Hopefully you've checked your oil.

I've heard of people who take their cars in for an oil change, and the mechanic only remembered to drain the crankcase, but forgot to put in any oil.

If your check engine light was on before the oil change, I'm sure the mechanic didn't think to turn it off. You'll have to tell them if you want the service engine light to be cancelled.

.Engine check light came on after oil change?hi there to reset it disconect the battery for about 5 mins... then reconect and it should go off.

People say 30 sec but from experiance of gmc .. and others wait 5mins or longer.

Also the most comon cause of the light coming on is ... your fuel cap isnt on correctly or tight. Takeit off put it back on.

Now if the light comes back on take your car to autozone or advanced auto parts and have them read the codes.. they will use a computer that reads the cars computer to tell yo whats wrong.Engine check light came on after oil change?I would bet that the tech forgot to plug the AIT sensor back up after checking air filter. look under hood along the air intake from air filter to throttle body and look for a sensor that is unplugged.Engine check light came on after oil change? It will turn off on it's own...IF...

If there is nothing wrong with the car, after a set number of engine cycles (that is, starting the engine a certain number of times, usually 20 or so on a Chevy) it will turn off.

You have a bigger problem, though. You need to know why it came on, and if the monkeys at Wal-Mart are responsible. Take it to an auto parts chain, like Advance Auto. They will read the computer code for you and tell you what it is. Make sure that if it's a serious issue, they leave the engine light on instead of 'clearing' the code. Take it back to Wal-Mart and talk to the manager about it, regardless of the code.

AND FOR CHRIST SAKE-STOP USING WAL-MART FOR YOUR CAR! These idiots are in bussiness making money byselling cheap crap that breaks. Is this who you want fixing your car?

Good luck.Engine check light came on after oil change?Check the oil level to make sure they didn't put too much or not enough in it. Make sure you check it with the engine turned off, and wipe the stick once first then put it in and take it out a second time to get an accurate reading.

If it is just the oil change light, then you can turn the car to %26quot;ON%26quot;, but DO NOT START the car. Press the gas pedal three times to the floor all the way (within 5 seconds of turning the ignition to %26quot;ON%26quot;) now wait five more seconds, then start the car. Wait a few seconds (up to 30) after you turn the car on to see if it goes out. If this doesn't do it, you can take your car to your local auto parts store, and have plug their code checker tool into the OBD2 plug under the dashboard. They can tell you if it is a serious problem, or something small. Plus they can reset it using that tool. Hope this helps.

Good luck!Engine check light came on after oil change? It needs to be reset by turning the car to the on position but don't start the car and press either the gas or break pedal 6to7 times within 10 seconds. Try that and the light should go out.Engine check light came on after oil change?there are a few things u can do.

1. check oil and call the manager at the wal-mart where u got the oil change.

2. when car is off, open the gas tank and remove the cap then replace and start car. see if this trick works.

3rd, turn the key to the on postion 3-5 times to reset.Engine check light came on after oil change?if your sure its the check engine light, they probably did a quick inspection on you car for maintinece recomendations.

in this process they may have left a sensor unplugged. a couple that pop up in my head is mass air flow sensor.

its behind the air box in the rubber tube leading to the engine.

but anytime that a code comes on there is a problem of some sorts and walmart lube techs arent the elite. take it to a gm dealer to have looked at.Engine check light came on after oil change? We should all install hidden cameras! Take a look!

  • How to Change oil on 2001 Honda CR250R?

Just bought the bike wanna do a fresh oil change... Prev owner didnt give me the manual.. What kinda oils the best.. How much? and where on the bike.. First 2 stroke so im kinda lost.. Im mixing the gas a 50:1 ratio with Spectro 2 stroke mix.. Just wanna get new oil in the crankcase..How to Change oil on 2001 Honda CR250R?The oil that goes in there is TRANS OIL not gear oil. Just get yourself a bottle of the honda trans oil, it should take exactly one bottle to fill your trans.

Also there will be a check bolt in the side of the case, will be a 10 mm with a #3 phillips and will have a washer let any excess completely drain out that hole. How to Change oil on 2001 Honda CR250R?i suggest that you run a ratio of 32:1 for

your premix. the oil that go's in the

crank case is gear oil not motor oil.

there is a drain plug on the bottom of the

engine. How to Change oil on 2001 Honda CR250R?basically every rider has their own opinion on both transmission fluid and premix.

personally I use Castrol ATF in the transmission. it shifts smoother and gives better clutch feel than any gear oil I've tried. you change the oil by draining it through the bolt on the bottom of the motor and filing it in the cap on the right side engine case, down by the kickstarter. the amount to refill is stamped on the case by the cap in cc's

    I like bel-ray synthetic premix.

since this is your first 2 stroke and you probably won't be riding it real hard yet, 50:1 is probably alright, personally I would mix it at 40:1. more oil means more friction protection, period. I always used 32:1 in my 125 but its a higher revving engine and i rode it hard.

How do you do an oil change to a car?

first look at the oil fill cap on the motor more than likely it will tell you what type of oil it recomends next look in the manual to see how much oil it takes , if you do not have the manual any auto parts store can help you find out how much and what filter you need.now that you have the oil and filter it is time to go to work. you will need some basic tools an ajustable wrench and a oil filter wrench also a container to drain the oil in, you can get all at the auto part store

now depending on the make you m,ight have to jack one side of the car so you can get underneth and locate the oil drain bolt with container underneth take bolt out let oil drain. after it is drained put skrew back in locate oil filter remopve with wrench

now ****important ***** when putting new filter on be sure to take a little oil on your finger and run it around the rubber ring on the filter this helps seal it and moistins the rubber put the filter on hand tight only (do not use wrench) fill car with oil and take old oil back to parts store were they are requiered by law to take it and you are done!!How do you do an oil change to a car?http://www.autozone.com/

Where can i find the cheapest oil change price for bmw?

i live in orange county.the Oil light is turning to red so i have to bring my car fo oil chang.and i don't want spent too much money and i dint want to do it myself because i don't know how to do it. i read some trick but i couldn't figure it out!! if any body knows good place with fair price let me know.thank youWhere can i find the cheapest oil change price for bmw? There are shops all around that can change oil. A BMW does not require any special tools for changing oil (unless your car needs to have the oil/service light turned off). Any Lube shop could handle it.

Learning how to change your oil is a good idea. There are detailed instructions all over the web, or I'm sure you have a family member or friends that would be willing to take 20 minutes to show you how. That will save you a lot of hassle, and it really only takes 10-20 minutes of your time. And for the lights: i actually bought a tool off ebay for $30 that resets the lights, and I use it everytime i change my oil.Where can i find the cheapest oil change price for bmw? What oil light is turning red? The low oil one or the oil pressure one. If its flickering at a light you have to do more than an oil change to fix that problem. Or are you taking about the amber to red bar? With this question you need to add the year and model. One way you can make your oil change much cheaper is to use non synthetic oil no harm is done if your car has the engine that %26quot;requires%26quot; it. I have customers who drive way above average miles constantly and have opted to my suggestion of using regular oil. I have been going this for many years with these cars and none of them have had any serious engine damage drawbacks to using regular oil. There is a performance drawback on some models with variable cams where the power band is slow to happen.Where can i find the cheapest oil change price for bmw?Wal- mart will change it.

But to change your light, bring it to an independent shop that specializes in BMW's and Merc's. Or for the same price as an independent, the dealership.Where can i find the cheapest oil change price for bmw?go to a bmw dealership they will do it,

and if you have a warranty they will do it for free

and usually they would put the synthetic kind

How to change oil when there's not enought?

I got about 4000 milles on the runway I think the car may need the oil changed. The car started loosing power and need the oil changed, should I trow the old oil and put somenew? I am in the midle of nowere and have not enought oil. What Should I do?How to change oil when there's not enought?Todays cars can go about 7000 miles without an oil change. That shouldn't be affecting your power. Use the oil you have to top it.How to change oil when there's not enought?add some oil until you can get to a place to buy more than enough for the next change. you should not be running the car low, even if you have old oil in it... it's better than none or not enough. How to change oil when there's not enought? If it's a quart or less you should be fine to drive it to a store and buy more. Just don't be racing the engine or driving it a long time a few miles should be okay. An 8 cyl or 6 cyl takes some low oil pressure to hurt it but a 4 cyl you can do big damage in a short time. so depending on which engine you have, you should be able to drive it to a store without damaging the engine if you are a quart or less.

2004 Buell Blast? How do you check the oil? Change the oil?

I just purchased a 2004 Buell Blast with 900 original miles on it. I can't find an oil fill/dip stick to check the oil level. This bike isnt like the other bikes I have owned in the past. I would like to know how to check the oil level and change the oil. Thanks :)2004 Buell Blast? How do you check the oil? Change the oil?If your Buell Blast is anything like mine, it's easy to miss the oil dip stick, as it looks nothing like what I was used to. Look directly below your speedometer - before you get to the gas tank area, you should see a circular black %26quot;plug%26quot; with a straight raised area that you can grasp. Not so fast, though - to check your oil, first run the bike for 10-15 minutes..maybe drive it around the block once or twice, but not aggressively. The oil level reads differently when it's warm or cold, and you want to take a warm reading.

When you're done riding, park and turn off the bike, then unscrew the oil plug while you're sitting on it (to keep the bike level). It's a good idea to cover the plug and a little bit of the surrounding area with a rag when you do this, as 1: the oil will be somewhat hot, 2: you'll want something to wipe off the dipstick with, and 3: the oil is under slight pressure from the ride, and it can squirt out a little bit. Not life-threatening, but i can get messy.

Once you wipe off the dipstick, put it back in and take your reading. With 900 original miles on the bike, you should be a little low...at 1000 miles, you need to take it to have your 1000-mile checkup, and they'll also change your filter.

If your oil is too low for your comfort, you can add a little bit. If you live in a moderate climate (read: it's not often below 40 degrees Fahrenheit), you can use SAE 20W50. Also, please consider joining the Yahoo! Buell Blast owners group. They have a lot of great information, as well as Buell owners %26amp; service manuals. I've listed the URL below as a source.

    1 oil filter

    wrench to remove oil plug

pan to catch oil, and way to dispose of the oil

    oil filter wrench

    washer fluid

funnelHow difficult is an oil change in a 2009 Toyota Sienna? Does one require a special tool? You can recycle the used oil at most chain auto parts stores. Get a set of rubber gloves, a proper size pan plug wrench (usually 17 or 19mm) a catch pan and a funnel. You don't need to type anything into the %26quot;search bar%26quot; as suggested by the non-mechanic. That is his answer for everything. You can pour the used oil into a used (clean) milk jug to take for recycling. How difficult is an oil change in a 2009 Toyota Sienna? Does one require a special tool?PLEASE LISTEN!!! You need a specific filter wrench that can be purchased at your dealer's parts counter. It's the same wrench for all Toyota cartridge filters and must be used to avoid damaging the housing. You can buy the filter wrench at any auto store, but I don't know the way they are sized, I just get mine from the parts counter. It has a 3/8 drive and your drain plug is 14mm. A 14mm 3/8 drive socket, the filter wrench, and a 3/8 drive ratchet are needed along with a 3 inch 3/8 extension for the filter wrench. It's a little recessed on the 2GR, which is the engine code for the 3.5 V6 in your van, and using the extension will give you access to the filter housing. Remember to replace the rubber gasket on the main part of the housing. There's a drip hole with a 3/8 female end located in the center of the filter housing, but you should not bother removing it. So, your filter should have had two gaskets included, and you will only be using the larger gasket for the housing. Put some clean oil on the gasket before re-installing the filter housing with the new filter inside. This prevents the gasket from tearing and prevents you from losing all your oil. There's also a drain plug gasket that you can get at the Toyota parts counter. This should also be replaced with every oil change. You can buy them in bulk at Toyota so you don't have to go back each time. This makes it sound much harder than it is. After the first time, you'll know what you're doing, just don't undershoot when refilling the oil. Depending on the vehicle, the 2GR takes somewhere between 5.25 and 6.25 quarts. It should say in your owner's manual what the capacity of your engine is. Good luck, and feel free to contact me with any specific questions about your van.

I was trying to do a oil change and the nut got rounded by trying to take it off wrong, how do i repair that?

i gues the previous person tried different sizes and wore out the 15 mm nut all the egdes that was suppose to fit in the socket are now round and wont fit anymore. Also they put it on real tight to make matters worse. do i have to take it to a pro for them to saw or drill it off or.... can i do something. whats the best way to fix this guys please help.I was trying to do a oil change and the nut got rounded by trying to take it off wrong, how do i repair that?I'd skip the vice grips. If you have a medium size to small size pipe wrench I'd probably try that. Sears and other tools stores do sell sockets and wrenches that work on the flats, and also sockets that are designed for removing rounded off nuts. These work best if you haven't already made the nut / bolt worse by using a vice-grips or a pipe wrench.

Any service station or oil change place will probably take care of it as part of a normal oil change for either no extra charge or just a few bucks. So that might be the easiest way to go. Especially since they will make sure your threads are still good in the hole.I was trying to do a oil change and the nut got rounded by trying to take it off wrong, how do i repair that?try some vise grips or maybe some channel locks and see if you can get it off that wayI was trying to do a oil change and the nut got rounded by trying to take it off wrong, how do i repair that?Use a pipe wrench or get a wrench that will get ahold and take off a nut like this and then buy a new oil plug. I do hope the treads are good on the oil pan.I was trying to do a oil change and the nut got rounded by trying to take it off wrong, how do i repair that?Wow it sucks that that happened. But anyways i would recommend you to drill a hole in the center of the nut with one of those bits that pulls it right out.I think maybe any hardware store might sell those types of bits.Just explain what happened and they will know what kind of bit it is.I dont know what the bit is called but it goes on the drill. It would be a lot cheaper than going to a pro.

Hope i helped.I was trying to do a oil change and the nut got rounded by trying to take it off wrong, how do i repair that?first get a replacement plug,,,,,,,,,

then get a GOOD set of vise grips to lock onyo the rounded plug,

remove plug and replace with new one,,,,,

    vise grips fail????

weld a nut to the end of the rounded plug,,,,

    use socket to remove plug,,,,

    replace with new plug,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

good luckI was trying to do a oil change and the nut got rounded by trying to take it off wrong, how do i repair that?there are wrenches that grip the flat part of the nut, you can use a pair of real vise grips (steel, not fake aluminum) but be extremely careful vise grips can rip the heck out of stuff you like too. use a carb cleaner first, that nut or what is left of it must have zero oil on it, to get it loose, the key is take your time, you can also grind a flat spot on either side of bolt head, and try to make your own nut. Buying a wrench set that uses the flat side of the nut, (its a box end with funny nubs on the inside) is an investment again take the time, and do it carefully this is the key,I was trying to do a oil change and the nut got rounded by trying to take it off wrong, how do i repair that?First, get a replacement bolt and washer so you have it when you pull the old one out.

If it's the oil pan drain bolt you should be able to grasp it tightly with vice grips and turn it forcefully until you can turn it by hand. If it is slippery (that's the point of oil, after all) clean it with a rag first.

Once you have the bolt out, check the threads to see that they're OK. If someone rounded the nut they may have stripped the threads too.

Try to avoid drilling the nut: sparks on the underside of an engine are a bad idea :)I was trying to do a oil change and the nut got rounded by trying to take it off wrong, how do i repair that?get a pair of vice grips on it and take it out and then go to the car parts store with it and get a new replacement drain plug.

Is it hard to change my own oil?

I'm tired of paying $30 and up for a 10 minute oil change. What does it actually entail? It is hard to learn how to do it?Is it hard to change my own oil?You can call or go to you nearest autozone to get the exact amount of oil you need, depending on whether your car takes synthetic blend, conventional, high mileage, w10-40, w10-30, w5-30 etc etc, what type of filter.

Ok, yes it is fairly easy.

1.make sure you are on a leveled ground, concrete preferably.

    2. Car has to be cold, that way the oil has settled and you won't get burned.

    3. With the oil cap off, (explaination below)Jack the car up enough for you to crawl under it fairly comfortable.

    4. Depending on the size of plug (in. Or mm) slide your oil pan in to catch the old oil once you take off the plug. (If you don't do it right and fast enough, it can get really messy)

Once it has dripped completely, move the oil pan under the oil filter and unscrew filter to let remainding oil. (Follow precaucions as you did with plug)

    5. Once all that is done, replace the old oil filter with the new one, but before you screw back on make sure to take you finger and get a little oil from the old filter on your fingertip and spread it on the rubber part of the new. Once that you can screw it on, you don't need a tool to put it on, maybe to uncrew it off depending how thight it is. Oh, make sure to screw it on not to thight but thight enough for it not to leak.

    6. Replace oil plug the same way you took it off.

Lower he car and add oil in the proper place.

    7. Turn car on for 10 sec. to raise the oil level, turn it off and check the dip stick for proper level.

    8. Dispose of old oil at you nearest autozone for recycle and because its the law, and you are done.

On #3, the reason you want the cap off is because if its on it create a vaccum make the oil drip slower onto the pan.Is it hard to change my own oil?It basically consists of buying the oil and oil filter. Draining the oil from the stopped engine, replacing the oil filter, and adding the new oil. It's better to have someone actually show you how it's done instead of someone describing it on here though. It is fairly simple, but considering not everyone wants to put time into doing it themselves and also disposing of the old oil, $30 really isn't a bad deal.

Just ask someone you know who could show you and give it a shot. If it works for you, then great, otherwise go back to having someone else do it.Is it hard to change my own oil?Its actually very simple to change your own oil...if your a bit online dependent like me here is a link to a step to step how to change your oil guide , you could get some idea to change your own oil... and its best to check your cars manual as well to see where everything goes.

http://www.wikihow.com/Change-the-Oil-in-Your-CarIs it hard to change my own oil?I mostly agree with Tony. If you haven't changed your own oil before, watching someone do it is easier than following directions.

A few things I would do beforehand are:

    1. Get an oil container to recycle your oil. Autozone takes old oil and has the containers you can buy and re-use.

    2. Try to determine what oil filter type you have on the car now and what you will be putting on the car as you change the oil. Why? Not all oil filters have the same gripping mechanism, which is what the oil filter wrench attaches to.

    3. Don't forget to wipe fresh oil on the oil filter rubber seal before you put the new filter in. By not doing this, you can cause early wear on the filter and possibly a leak. Afterwards, hand tighten the filter as far as you can, then give it a 1/4 to 1/3 turn with an oil filter wrench to seat it correctly.

If you do a sloppy job, which is common the first time, ensure you wipe up the oil that might be spilled on or around engine parts, especially the exhaust manifold. If you don't you will see that spilled oil in the form of smoke billowing out from under the hood :)Is it hard to change my own oil?It is actually very easy to do. You only have to take out the oil drain plug and drain the oil then you need to take the filter off and replace it. In terms of tools you need a box wrench to take off the drain plug and you may need an oil filter wrench to take off the oil filter you will also need a drain pan to collect the oil. If you are going to change your own oil you also need to be responsible and find a parts store or garage that will take your used oil, if you can't recycle your oil you shouldn't change it yourself. Is it hard to change my own oil?I think every car owner should know how to change their oil, if only to be a more educated person. That way you will know if someone is ripping you off or messing up your car.

There are plenty of videos on You Tube if you are just curious. I agree that you should have someone help you do it and watch them. Its not that hard to do and is rewarding. Is it hard to change my own oil?Buy 5 quarts of oil or a case of 10w-30 oil,Buy a oil filter at wal mart that is listed in their oil filter look up book for your car.You will need a oil filter wrench,a socket of proper size for the drain plug,a jack and jack stand for safety to hold the car up while you change the oil,a oil drain pan for the old oil. That's about it.Is it hard to change my own oil?Its really not that hard to change your oil, its just that its not really worth it jacking up your car to get under it and risking a huge mess all over the garage floor, plus you have to take the oil somewhere to have it disposed. On top of that its going to take you longer than 10 minutes and you're going to be spending $15 to $20 for the oil and filter anyway. What I do is clip coupons from the paper for a $19.95 oil change. Its really not worth it to change your own oil.Is it hard to change my own oil?changing your own oil is really easy. first, buy your oil and an oil filter, ask a parts store which kind of both you need. then put your car on some sort of ramp with enough room for you to move around in. next, get something that the oil can drain into, a bucket, oil pan, big bowl, etc. then locate the oil plug under your car, it should be towards the front on the side of a gridded piece of metal, take that out but when you do all of the oil will come surging out so be sure your %26quot;oil catcher%26quot; is in place. after all of the oil is drained, put the plug back in, then take the oil filter off, it should be really close to where the oil came out, more oil might come out of the filter so be careful. put the new filter on. finally get out from underneath your car and find the oil cap it should be pretty obvious, but pour your new oil in there and let it let for about ten minutes then you should be good to go.Is it hard to change my own oil?cost you about same really

I do it myself and pay $45 for the oil, $15 for the filter, so I would be $30 better off.

It's best done when the engine is reasonably warm. You need to jack up the car and find the sump plug. Be sure not to mistake the sump plug for the transmission drain plug. Then find yourself a container that will take the oil from the motor. Place the empty container under the sump plug and unscrew the plug. It will be hot, and you may drop it in the old oil, but that's OK, you can fish it out later. When all the oil has drained, you then have to relocate the container with the old oil, to under the oil filter. Here is a little challenge. You won't be able to unscrew the oil filter with your hands. You can buy a special tool for about $10. Or, get yourself a good strong, longish screwdriver and bash it (forcefully) through the old filter and use it as a handle to unscrew the old filter. Unscrew it and let the old oil drip out. When oil has stopped dripping out from both places, replace the sump plug. Pour some of the new oil into the new filter, about 3/4 full, smear a film of oil around the rubber seal. Being careful not to spill oil out of the filter, replace the new one. Screw it in till it stops and tighten it up by hand. Not super tight. Check your owners manual for the amount of oil your car takes. Take the cap of the rocker cover and pour in the new oil. If you are not sure how much oil it takes, simply pour in a litre at a time and check the dipstick. Be sure not to overfill. When you have finished, start the engine and check for leaks. Have fun.Is it hard to change my own oil?$30 is a really good deal. I do it myself for about $15 dollars though. 5 Quarts Castrol GTX for $12 and $3 for a Fram filter. Is it hard to change my own oil?really depends on the car on how difficult it will be, but it is always the same proces:drain old oil, remove old filter, reinstall drain plug, install new filter, refill with oil. Not hard at all, but you will need some basic tools, containers, and a flat surface to work on. Check the link below for a good instructable guide

I took my car in to my dealer for an oil change, engine check with 26 pts inspection. Now, whats wrong?

After driving it 5 or 10 miles and turning off the engine, I now hear a ticking or clicking sound coming from towards the back on the passenger side. The car never did this before. Is this the beginning of my problems with my car and this dealership? I have 5420 miles on the odometer. Its a Chevy Aveo LT 2005.

What is this ticking sound I hear, and how can it be remedied? Is it ok for it to do this? You know, my car was running so well, I was leary about taking it in for fear they would do something to it when they went under my hood. Guess I should have followed my instincts.I took my car in to my dealer for an oil change, engine check with 26 pts inspection. Now, whats wrong?Sounds like an electric fuel pump.

Take it back and have them test drive it. You are still under warranty; make it their problem, not yours.I took my car in to my dealer for an oil change, engine check with 26 pts inspection. Now, whats wrong?why does everyone think that the dealership service departments %26quot;break%26quot; things on your car when you take it in for an oil change? trust me....we dont. at least in the 3 that i have worked at.

    how about this answer....

before jumping to conclusions, drive back up there, have the service manager or a tech ride WITH you, and see what they think it may be. if the car is still under warranty make an appt or have them check it then.

and as for your instincts....jiffy lube is a far more crooked place than a dealership, plus i would rather have a factory tech working on my car rather than a $7/hr guy that they hire a new one every 6 months...I took my car in to my dealer for an oil change, engine check with 26 pts inspection. Now, whats wrong? If you hear this %26quot;ticking%26quot; while you are driving, see if you picked up a stone or other item in right rear tire. Hope it's only a stone.I took my car in to my dealer for an oil change, engine check with 26 pts inspection. Now, whats wrong?Yes just sounds like a rock in the tread of the tire.

  • Car Oil Change, how do we know that they actually changed it?

    Dear All,

When we take our car to the garage for a routine service, engine oil change, etc., how do we know whether they did it. For instance, how do we know that the oil was actually changed?

ThanksCar Oil Change, how do we know that they actually changed it?Pull out the dipstick and look at it's colour. If it is really dark and dirty, they didn't change it. It should be a honey colour. As long as you haven't waited too long to check it.

Also check to see if there is a new oil filter on there if they charge you for one. If they replaced your oil filter, chances are they replaced your oil since it is easier to put new oil in than the same old oil back.Car Oil Change, how do we know that they actually changed it?I change my own oil. But you can check it on the dipstick. If it's golden, then it's fresh. If it's black, then it's old.Car Oil Change, how do we know that they actually changed it?Put the oil dipstick in there and see if there is dark sludgy residue on the tip of the dipstick. It's super easy to do. Look at your owner's manual if you don't know how.Car Oil Change, how do we know that they actually changed it?I'd take the oil level. So, wait til it's cool then pull out the dipstick. New oil should be pale and clean looking. Old oil is black.

I've never actually checked, I always trust they have done it. They usually charge us for a whole bottle of oil and leave the left over bit in the boot if they have used less than a bottle.Car Oil Change, how do we know that they actually changed it?Pull the dipstick out and look at the oil. If it is bright and clear yellow/golden color, the oil was changed. Still dark and dirty, not changed.

Look at the oil filter. A new one will still be clean and shiny. The old one will be dirty and covered in road dust.Car Oil Change, how do we know that they actually changed it?all down to trust, there are not many places that woulnt change oil but say they had done.

if you have a petrol engine, then check oil, it should be golden colour on dipstick, if it is diesel, then it will probably look black even if it has been changed,

if you are really inquisitive, check the sump plug, to see if there is a sign that it has recently been removed, ie, wrench mark, and if it has been cleaned around where it is situated.Car Oil Change, how do we know that they actually changed it?The oil will be very clear almost transparentCar Oil Change, how do we know that they actually changed it?Pull out the oil dip stick. The oil clinging to it should be clean with perhaps a slight amber color. If the oil is black, it wasn't changed. The dip stick itself may be dark or black; that doesn't matter. Without looking at the oil's color, you can't tell.Car Oil Change, how do we know that they actually changed it?Just because you fake having orgasms does not mean everybody else is at it.Car Oil Change, how do we know that they actually changed it?check by looking at the dip stick.oil should be cleanCar Oil Change, how do we know that they actually changed it?If your mechanically minded you might notice a slightly lower tickover. You can always ask to see the old filter, probably if they removed this then you know the oils been changed.Car Oil Change, how do we know that they actually changed it?I would pull the dipstick out when the engine is cold. When it's warm any old oil will be mixed with the clean oil. Is it clean and full? If you don't trust the shop don't go there.

Do you really need experience to work at a oil change job at 18 years old?

I heard you dont need experiance and they train you,but then i hear you need to have exprience which makes no sense if they train you, well can anyone tell me what you need in order to work at a oil change place, and how much is it an hour for a 18 year old.

Oh and and how much does WAL-MART pay an hour for stocking shelves and i heard it's a 3rd shift job which makes it more comfortableDo you really need experience to work at a oil change job at 18 years old?I can not tell you first hand but I would not imagine that an oil change shop would require experience. They probably would start you out at minimum wage. They only way to know for sure would be to fill out an application %26amp; talk to the manager. I would imagine WalMart would be much the same, although they may have an online source that shows job opportunities available, starting pay, %26amp; benefits.

    Good Luck!

How long does an oil change take?

I've never taken my car to get the oil changed, my dad usually does it and I have no idea how long it takes...How long does an oil change take?If you go to a fast place, as little as 10 minutes. How long does an oil change take?10-20 minsHow long does an oil change take?If you go to a quick change place 15 - 20 min but dont let them talk you into doing more, lots of time that is how they make more money for themselves and take advantage of you if you dont know much about carsHow long does an oil change take?Personally, I'd rather have it done at the car dealer where it might take longer and cost more. First, you'll get factory trained shop technicians using original equipment filters and fluids who are familiar with your model car. There can be a big difference in oil filter design and quality, and you don't want to take a chance damaging a $5,000 engine. Also, what if the %26quot;quickie lube shop%26quot; cross threads your oil drain plug and you end up losing all your oil on the highway and burning up your engine? You've got a much better chance of mistakes being corrected responsibly at your car dealer than at a quickie lube chain. The chain store will try to sell you lots of things you don't need in some cases because that's the way their business is set up to operate. An oil change may seem like a simple no risk maintenance item, but auto mechanics can easily do major damage to your car. Who do you really trust to maintain and repair that $25,000 car you just purchased? How long does an oil change take?depeding upon the place...

Places that just change the oil nothing less 5 min-10 min.

Most quick lube/dealers are closer to 20-30 min. maybe more depending upon how many are a head of you but when you arrive, the longer time is because they do all the inspections, vac the car etc.they should give an idea of how long to do it.

But personally never had anyone change my oil in 17 years of driving... But changing others oil.. that's about the time neededHow long does an oil change take? Not very long. Like 20 - 30 minutes, not even. How long does an oil change take?Once they take your car in, should be no more than half an hour. How long does an oil change take?it all depends on the place where you go to. i had to wait like 2 hours because they have like 5 cars before me. but if you are the only one it doesnt even take 20 minutes. How long does an oil change take?I can change my oil and filter in 20 minutes including checking all the fluids under the hood, putting it on stands and taking it off.How long does an oil change take?depends on the size of your engine, how many people are in front of you, and if the place doing it is quick or not, I would schedule at least an hour, that way you should be in and out with out running late. How long does an oil change take?I always go to the fast lube..takes about 10 mins there if there's no one in line. maybe 20 mins at most. How long does an oil change take?Don't ever trust any dealership, or any quick lube place. I've seen over filled, under filled, wrong oil put in into engines, stripped oil pans, you name it. Nissan dealership drained my uncle's car's transmission fluid instead of oil and then tried to drive the car outside. You can imagine what happened. Idiots. I change my car oil myself and it takes me about 20 min, but I like to get as much as possible out, so I wait a bit longer if I got nowhere to go. If you absolutely have to go somewhere else check oil level yourself after they're done. And yeah depending on lines it'll probably take like 30 min., maybe less. They're in no hurry. How long does an oil change take?Just do it yourself. It'll take the same amount of time, but save you a lot of money in the long run.How long does an oil change take?Very little time at all, usually less than 30 minutes. It usually depends on how much the mechanic checks over. Like topping off all your fluids as well. How long does an oil change take?Depending on if you have to wait in line or not, it should take about 20-30 minutes.

Who regulates the fast oil change places in lubbock texas?

I AM CONCERNED THAT ALL THESE FAST OIL CHANGE PLACES DO NOT USE THE SPECIFIC OIL CALLED FOR. I RECENTLY PUT MY CAR IN THE SHOP AND THEY ASKED ME HOW LONG IT HAD BEEN SINCE I HAD AN OIL CHANGE. (IT HAD ONLY BEEN 1 WEEK) MY CAR USES FULLY SYNTHETIC OIL (OR I THOUGHT IT WAS USING THAT, I HAVE BEEN PAYING FOR THAT) HE TOLD ME THAT MY OIL WAS VERY DIRTY AND IT THERE WAS NO WAY THEY USED FULLY SYNTHETIC. NOW , WHO AM I TO TRUST AND HOW DO I GO ABOUT UNDERCOVERING THE REAL TRUTH IN THIS SAGA?Who regulates the fast oil change places in lubbock texas?First, when I go to an oil change place, I put the cheap stuff in my old truck so I could care less what brand or type they put it. So, when I am there, I sit back and read the paper or watch t.v. The lousiest grade they have there has got to be better than what is left in my engine. The cheaper the better.

Now, if I was paying $10, $20, or more extra to have synthetic added (normally from a bottle instead of the bulk tank), then I would watch to insure that they were doing it. For $10 a quart, I want them to treat me like a fine wine connoisseur. They should pour it in a glass and let me take a whiff as I swirl it around, smelling the bouquet. Not only could someone cheat you out of the synthetic, it could just be a mistake on the outside person putting the wrong oil in. Not a lot, but mistakes do occur.

Now that you suspect that they have made a mistake or are cheating you, you should go back and investigate for yourself if you see people paying for synthetic, are they truly getting it? See if you can find someone that you know that uses the same place and also uses synthetic. Go with them and watch closely. If they are dishonest, demand that they change your oil correctly this time and watch them like a hawk. Then, if you have seen lots of evidence of fraud, report them to the BBB.

  • I have a 2005 Honda CRF 80, I would like to do an oil change myself. How to?

This will be the first oil change since I bought it. Should I just go have it done?I have a 2005 Honda CRF 80, I would like to do an oil change myself. How to?It's a fairly simple job.

-Remove the oil drain bolt (bottom of motor, near the front on the right).

-Drain the oil (don't forget to re-cycle).

    -Re-install the drain bolt.

-Fill motor with 4 stroke motor oil, to the top line of the dipstick (it's attached to the oil fill cap). Oil fill cap/dip stick is on the right crankcase cover.

-Fill and check the oil level with the bike upright (as if you were sitting on it). When checking the oil level, do not screw the dip stick in. Let it rest on the threads. Takes about a quart.

-Screw in the dip stick and run the bike for a couple of minutes.

-Turn off the motor and let it cool down for a few minutes (to let the oil drain down to the crankcase) and recheck the oil level. Add or drain oil to get the level correct.

-Your bike doesn't have an oil filter, it has an oil screen. It shouldn't need cleaning at this time. But if you'd like to check it, after draining the oil, remove the oil pump cover on the right side of the motor.

-Here's a picture of your motor - look at oil pump, right crankcase cover (for dipstick) %26amp; crankcase (to see drain bolt).

there will be a bolt on bottom of engine to drain oil usually lowest point.( may have a filter as well) Probably has 17mm head size(dont remember, havent done one since it was XR75)

Remember to turn it counter clock to unscrew it. Drain oil , refit bolt when its drained (be careful not to overtighten or you can strip thread) refill with measured amount on right side top of clutch cover..

Dipstick doesnt get screwed in to check oil level ( but make sure you do screw it in before riding)

The handbook should give you all the information you need

How long should after my car off would it be ok/safe to do an OIL CHANGE?

I simply don't want to get burned and or have it not get all the oil outHow long should after my car off would it be ok/safe to do an OIL CHANGE?you can change the oil immediately after you shut the car off from running it as oil drains much better when it's hot.How long should after my car off would it be ok/safe to do an OIL CHANGE?your grammar sucks, but you can change the oil right after you stop the engine, the oil temp is usually about the same as the water in a hot shower. however be careful around the other engine components like the exhaust, that gets really hot.How long should after my car off would it be ok/safe to do an OIL CHANGE?I always change after a quick drive. i only get a tiny bit on my hand sometimes and it's hardly enough to burn. the hotter the oil is the thinner it is and runs better so you can get the most out. I drive for a few minutes, drive up on the ramp and drain. then leave it draining for about 15 minutes and finish up. Wear latex gloves if you are worries about it and you won't feel the hot oil at all.How long should after my car off would it be ok/safe to do an OIL CHANGE?I do it at about ten minutes after shut down. This is only because it helps for oil to be warm when changing because contaminants are still suspended, and it flows easier. If you are dealing with excessively tight quarters and a bit of a lack of experience you should wait longer to insure you don't get burned. This time period varies as cast iron holds heat much longer than aluminum ect. Usually it is at least an hour before some parts are cool enough to touch.

The oil itself is rarely hot enough to actually burn you after ten minutes if that is all you are worried about. How long should after my car off would it be ok/safe to do an OIL CHANGE?wait at least 20 min to cool. the oil will be hot when you drain itHow long should after my car off would it be ok/safe to do an OIL CHANGE?Actually the sooner the better. Dirt in oil will settle on the bottom of the oil pan after a short time. Try starting the car and let it idle for a couple of minutes. This will allow the dirt to suspend in the oil without getting too hot. Good luck. How long should after my car off would it be ok/safe to do an OIL CHANGE?Oh I don't know maybe 10 or 20 minutes?

Actually, if my engine is cold I simply drive it for 2 miles [1 mile out and 1 mile back] and then drain the oil and it doesn't seem to be hot enough to cause a burn but it is definitely warmed up.

In summer when it is hot out it shouldn't matter much but in sub zero weather your oil could be considerably thicker and won't drain as well without warming up the engine. Of course it depends a bit on the oil you use as well. Still it is better to change it with the engine warmed up %26amp; recently run.

If your oil pan is warm then it is warm enough to drain the oil but if it is so hot that you can't comfortably keep your hand on the oil pan then let it cool for a while if you are concerned with accidentally burning yourself with hot oil. Personally I would be more concerned with burning myself on hot engine parts such as the exhaust. I have never burned myself on the oil.How long should after my car off would it be ok/safe to do an OIL CHANGE?be careful when you get under the car but the thinner the oil is the faster it will flow. the faster it flows, the more sludge and particulate matter will come out wit the stream. it is not that difficult to do.i do it daily at work in a lube shop.

How often should i lubricate my motorcycle chain and when to do an oil change / tune up?

what is the best lubricant for the chain and how often should i do a tune upHow often should i lubricate my motorcycle chain and when to do an oil change / tune up?id say change oil every 1000 miles, tune up at 4000 and lube the chain every 300 or 400 miles. How often should i lubricate my motorcycle chain and when to do an oil change / tune up?I use Protech chain lube ,most white grease sprays will work and you should lube it when you see it is dry or after washing your bike and as far as a tune up it really depends on you ,your bike and amount of riding time ,I would suggest early spring and then in the middle of the summer at least .I would also suggest cleaning the chain periodically then respraying as to prevent sand and dirt build up from ruining the chain

How to do a transmission oil change chevrolet 96 pick up ?

Hello , i have a 96 chev pick up truck 1500 and i want to do it a tranny flush

but i dont know how to drain the oil from the trans ??

    any help ?

thank youHow to do a transmission oil change chevrolet 96 pick up ?If you want a 100% change, you need to go to a shop to get it hooked up through the cooler lines on the upper pass side side of the radiator. That is the only way to get everything out of the torque converter and the cooler. Other than that you can get about a third of the fluid by removing the pan bolts from underneath the transmission. Be careful, sometimes you can damage sensors inside the transmission. I would still recommend having a professional do it. Jiffy Lube is great about those services. How to do a transmission oil change chevrolet 96 pick up ?Take it to a shop for a transmission flush. They can drop the pan and replace the filter. they will hook up a flushing machine to the cooler lines and push new fluid in while the old fluid gets sucked in to the waist tank. Just dropping the pan and refilling it doesn't replace nearly all the fluid in the transmission. You'll only be able to get out a couple quarts by removing the pan and leaving whats left in the tourque converter and pump and hydraulic circuits. For the best results take it to a shop and have it flushedHow to do a transmission oil change chevrolet 96 pick up ?Just take the bolts out of the pan except for one corner and slowly tip it down so it drains into your drain pan. They do not have drain plugs like a oil pan. Just go slowly and make sure that you break the seal before you get the pan down too far.How to do a transmission oil change chevrolet 96 pick up ?I also have issues with my chevrolet . I posted my question on wish123 and got an answer from an expert who solved my problems. Highly recommend the website. How to do a transmission oil change chevrolet 96 pick up ?believe me you don,t want to flush it. if you do then you might need more then a fluid and filter change.

  • I have a fj cruiser and accidently drained tranny fluid doing an oil change how do you add or service?

2007 fj cruiser need to know how to add trans fluid and check it's leve;I have a fj cruiser and accidently drained tranny fluid doing an oil change how do you add or service?Sorry but tow it to a dealershipI have a fj cruiser and accidently drained tranny fluid doing an oil change how do you add or service?ray a is right...there is no dipstick--the WS is world standard fluid

and there is a special tool and a procedure to get the level just right at operating temperature. you can buy the fluid from the dealer, but the filler plug is in a tough spot and is awkward even with the correct pump. You are not the first to do this so don't feel bad, but getting the fluid level wrong can cause a shifting problem, so would be best to tow to the dealer.I have a fj cruiser and accidently drained tranny fluid doing an oil change how do you add or service?your trans uses WS fluid. it doesnt have a dipstick on it. there is a procedure to follow regarding filling it. the trans gets filled a certain amount, then at a certain temp it gets plugged off.

    dont risk your transmission.

Get a flatbed to tow it to the dealership and pay them to fix it. really. it may cost a couple hundred. but its way cheaper than a new transmission.I have a fj cruiser and accidently drained tranny fluid doing an oil change how do you add or service? The FJ Cruiser does NOT have a transmission dipstick. You

need to check the fluid level by removing the top plug on the

transmission and that is also where you fill it. The level should

be just below the plug hole.I have a fj cruiser and accidently drained tranny fluid doing an oil change how do you add or service? It it was an automatic tranny, you add it through the tranny dip stick.

If it is a stick shift, you have to find the filler BOLT few inches above the drain bolt you removed. You fill it using a long funnel and pour it from the top or a oil pump from the bottom.

good Luck...I have a fj cruiser and accidently drained tranny fluid doing an oil change how do you add or service? Is it a manual or auto? Manual is filled though the fill plug on the LH side and is easier with a fluid pump. Mine is a manual so I don't know where the fill plug is on the auto.

go to www.FJCRUISERFORUMS.com Lots of info there.

Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?

It has been like 5500 miles since my last one. They say 3000 but is that really necessary?Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?Go with what the owners manual says.

This is important to keep your warranty valid.

Most manufacturers are recommending oil change intervals of 5000 miles or more for normal driving, 3000 for extreme duty.

Time is as important as mileage for oil changes: I tell people at least twice a year no matter what the mileage. Cars that sit or are %26quot;short tripped%26quot; can build up acids in the crankcase.

I go by %26quot;look and feel%26quot; on my oil changes. The oil should be no darker than pancake syrup, and you should be able to read the writing on the dipstick though it.

I wipe the dipstick off with my fingers and %26quot;feel%26quot; the oil between my thumb and forefinger. Do this right after an oil change to %26quot;get a feel%26quot; for how new oil %26quot;feels%26quot;.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?3,000 is best, but I do my own, so it doesn't cost that much.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?3000 is goooooood insurance against wear.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?Well, that depends on how well you want your car to run and for how long... 3000 miles is quite a few miles. I would change it.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?The manufacturer suggests 3500 miles now. If you use synthetic oil, then they only need to be changed every 15,000 miles. It is very important that changing oil, checking your tires, ect is essential!Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?I would change the oil and filter now. For the next oil change, I would do it at 4000 for about a year or two, then start changing at 3000.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?Depends on the type of oil. I recommend pure synthetic. Every 5000 miles for it. Costs more but oil is cheaper than an engine. 3000 miles for conventional oil. Change that oil and don't take a chance with your engine. Replace the filter with every change too. My preference is Castrol GT or Castrol full synthetic.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?my Friend just bout a 06 expedition with 3 years of free serves thy told him to bring it in every 5000 miles so if that's good for warranty it should be enoughRealistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?YES!!! My questin is why WOULDN'T you want to have an oil change done on your 2006 car? How much money did you pay for this car? How much do you value your vehicle? If you care about your vehicle just a little bit, you would WANT to do your regular maintenance, including oil changes. Failure to perform regular maintenance on your new vehicle may even VOID your warranty, should your engine fail DUE TO LACK OF MAINTENANCE!!! I hope you get the message, it could be saving you a few hundred, if not thousands of dollars in future vehicle repairs due to neglect.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?It depends more on the oil than the year of the car. If you are using full synthetic, 5 months/5000 miles is fine, if you are using %26quot;real%26quot; oil, still need the 3months/3000 miles change. Either way, you are due for a change. Remember, oil is what keeps your engine running smoothly. You can severely shorten your car's life by not performing regular changes.

Btw, synthetic is better on your car. I have a 91 Honda Civic which was acting up, and I figured it was going to die soon, but then I switched to synthetic, and now it runs great!Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?if you are usind a good quality product, 5500 is right near the upper limit after that all kinds of weird things start happening inside the engine where you cant see them or get to them easily. when the gasses inside the car are expelled, some of them remain in suspension in the oil, creating various corrosives inside the crank case, the basic idea is to get thse things washed out at a regular interval. even with the high cost of oil, an oil change is still cheaper than parts, labor, and the inconvenience of having your ride tied up.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?On my new cars i changed the oil first time at 1000 miles. Then at every 5000 miles i change the oil and filter (Use an Oem Filter just in case there is warranty issues it protects you because you used the factory oil filter). Oil is a lot better than 10 years ago. So i think it is a real big waste to change it at 3000 only if your towing or in dusty conditions would i see it necessary. Use good quality oil. Not the Pep Boys oil. Valvoline Castrol or synthetic if you can afford it.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?I know that it seems like it is to often. And, we all would rather not have to shovel out the money for them. But, if you added up all of the damage that can happen, if you don't have the oil changed regularly, it is not all that expensive. And, it doesn't seem like such a pain.

Congrats on the new car. Changing the oil regularly will keep your investment lasting a lot longer.

There are %26quot;other%26quot; things that we %26quot;must%26quot; do regularly as well. Please read and believe whole heartily your manual.

Not rotating my tires regularly has cost me dearly.

Good luck, I hope this helps you, Dawn MRealistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?Go with econofix the first answerer.

This 3000 stuff is so they can get under your car and sell you services not needed, make lotsa money that way.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?couldnt have said it better than econfix.Realistically, how often do I need to get an oil change on a 2006 car?first of all what kind of a car is it. and how often and far do you drive it in a time period. i have a 2006 honda civic ex. they recommend that i change it every 5000 miles. or when they guage says it needs changed. but if you where someone that only put 5000 miles a year on your car, you would change it by the time, about every 3 months. if its a vehicle that you do a lot of hauling in, like a truck, you would want to change it more often.

How much damage will my car have if I got a extended period without doing a oil change?

I know its suppose to be every 3,000 miles or 3 months but im doing on 5 months now without changing my oil. Should I worry? How long can I go on like this before something happens? and what will that %26quot;soemthing%26quot; be?How much damage will my car have if I got a extended period without doing a oil change? If is still 3,000 Miles and five months, it should still be OK. I wouldn't worry to much. Just goahead and change it, and don't risk it.How much damage will my car have if I got a extended period without doing a oil change? As long as you've been checking to make sure your oil isn't low, you won't suffer immediate major damage. What does happen is that oil collects dirt and becomes acidic, so any extended periods between oil changes will shorten the motors overall life. How much damage will my car have if I got a extended period without doing a oil change?lots of problems, engine sludge, if you burn too much off, the engine will start to lock up, cracked heads, valve leakage. y r u waiting 5 months???? the damage will be severe and usually catastrophic. How much damage will my car have if I got a extended period without doing a oil change? Its not too bad. Every 3000 miles is actually a little excessive.... Unless you use your car like a madman, its fine to way an extra month or two.

I dont follow any mileage or date recommendations. I just check to make sure if the oil is still clean once in awhile. Once it starts coming out a little darker and dirty, thats when I decide to change it.How much damage will my car have if I got a extended period without doing a oil change?Going over occasionally will not do much if any harm at all, but continued running of old oil will cause premature wear of all the moving parts in your engine, because the grit and other contaminants are being circulated by the oil pump.

http://www.nordicgroup.us/oil.htm#How%20How much damage will my car have if I got a extended period without doing a oil change?Several of the manufacturers have extended their oil change recommendations to 6,000 miles or six months. The improved metallurgy today, much better filters and far better oil formulation have made the 3,000 or 3 months bit a bit archaic. Consumer Reports, a couple of years back, ran a report on the tests they did with a New York, City taxi fleet. Started out with all new engines and ran some at 3,000 mile interval, some at 5,000 and some at 6,000 with everything from expensive synthetic oil down to the cheap generic brand oil. Tore them all down around 80,000 miles and weighed the bearings on a gram scale to determine how much wear had occured. Their findings were no significant differences between the different oils or change intervals. How much damage will my car have if I got a extended period without doing a oil change?Much depends upon the year make and model of your car. As a rule of thumb short stop and go driving is very rough on engines and the oil inside. The poor motor never gets hot enough to drive off condensation and gas leak down from the combustion chambers. These things can seriously dilute the oil and lessen it's ability to properly lubricate and at detergent additives are thinned out so the oil will not keep your motor as clean as it should.

These things are prime examples that cause oil sludging problems. You don't want that to happen. Nowadays most cars call for 5,000 mile oil changes. To me that's stretching things. You could safely get away with it if you used 100% synthetic motor oil. The additive packages are far surperior to regular oil. It flows faster at low temperatures and does not vaporize at high temps.

How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?

My car isn't high tech so there are no lights to tell me. I can't really remember the last time I did get it changed, but it seems like a while ago. I've seen people check it from under the hood, but what do I look for?How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?If the oil looks black on the dipstick it's time to change it.How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?Fresh motor oil is liquidy and amber colored. If you dip the stick and it comes up dark and really thick, it's time to get it changed. I fyou can't remember the last time you did it, then it's probably time to. Better safe than sorry, you don't want you engine to seize.

I don't have the owner's manual to my car cause it's old and I don't have a light either so I do it every 3-4 thouand miles as a ruleHow can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?It should be changed every about 4000 miles. Your best bet would be just to have it changed. If you have it changed somewhere, they will give you a sticker or paper telling you at what mileage you should have it changed at again.

If you are going to change it your self, just make sure you write down the mileage and change it in 4000 more miles.

Just do that so that you dont have to worry about when or if you changed your oil in the future.

Good luckHow can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?Go with the first two suggestions and change every 4 or 5 thousand miles. Check your oil level regularly, though, using the dip stick. If the oil is looking black or bitty then change ahead of the allotted time. How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?the oil dipstick will tell you. 1st pull out the dipstick. then wipe dipstick clean with a rag. 2nd see what color the oil is if it is a very dark black it's time to change the oil. 3rd put dipstick back into the motor and pull out again the level of the oil will be visible on the stick and will say if you need to add oil to your motor. If it does need oil pour it down the oil filler cap on your valve cover NOT the dipstick hole. Hope this works for you and remember every 3 thousand miles change the oil.How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?Look for discoloration in the oil, like you can't see through it anymore and also you can rub it between your fingers and feel it for grit or trash. If it also looks watery and kind of runs off the dip stick I would say it is time to change it. When you do have it changed get a little notebook and mark down the mileage when you have it changed and then you won't have to try to remember next time. I used to work for Firestone years ago and I have done many an oil change. For best engine performance and longevity change the oil every 4000 miles. How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?there,s a stick that says engine oil, that,s where you check it at. look at the oil on the stick, it should give you a idea if it needs changing or not.if it looks dirty, change it.How can I tell if my car needs an oil change..?Near the place where you fill the oil, there will be a metal %26quot;loop%26quot; that you pull that fits into a small metal %26quot;tube%26quot; (thats your dip stick, but make sure its for the engine oil)....Pull out the dipstick, wipe it off completely, put it back in the hole, and take back out. You are looking for black, thin oil on the dipstick...this means the oil is dirty, thin and not protecting your engine like it should. Change the oil, it should look like it does when it comes out of the can, somewhat dark, but not black and thin. Make sure you dont overfill, read your car manuel or google how much your make and model takes. You are probably low as you have not changed it in some time. The oil will be at the bottom of the dipstick, which also gives you a fill line that tells you how much to add, or replace. YOu will see little notches (each notch equals 1 quart of oil) on the tip of the dipstick, thats why you have to wipe it off when you check your oil, so you can see where the fill line is, and or how much to replace. Change your oil at least every 6 months, for sure. Some people change it every 3000 miles, but really you dont need to do that EVERY 3000 if your doing normal driving. Oil change places will tell you that to get you to come back in. To be safe, do it every 5-6 months with regular normal driving, and everytime you are going on a long trip. When you change the oil, refill and check all your other fluids too, like the radiator overflow, radiator, brake fluid, tranny fluid, windshield washer fluid, and check your tires for air. You are good to go !

  • I just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?

It was a special price so I thought why not. I have a 2000 Suzuki Vitara 4WD with 65,000 miles. Ten minutes after I left the dealer my engine froze. I had it towed back to the dealer and they said I need a new engine. How is this possible since they just changed the oil. Never had any engine sounds or anything like that. They want $3,000 to install a new engine. Am I being taken for a ride or do engines just freeze up without warning?I just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?Somebody ran it without oil in it. An engine doesn't freeze up without warning. It develops a knocking sound first.

Its Their fault.

Get a lawyer. And when you win make sure their not the ones that give you the new engine.I just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?Sounds like you are being taken for a long ride ,Did they even put oil back in it? Engines do seize from time to time usually they do not have oil in them. Get a good lawyer.I just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?always check your oil after you have it serviced at any lube shop or dealer. 99% of the time its gonna be right but that 1 time somebody forgets the oil plug costs a lot of money.

if your motor made horrible sounds and suddenly jerked to a halt yeah you need a motor. Because they forgot to put the oil plug back in and didn't check the oil after servicing. Not checking oil lvls is common at dealers the service guys know your motor requires 4.75 qts of oil with a new filter so to make things faster the just dump that much in it and pull it off the rack instead of cranking it for a minute to fill the oil filter then turning it off and waiting for the oil to settle and checking to be sure it's right.

Sooooo go check your oil. No that is not a normal thing to happen. it may still be dry or maybe they are trying to cover it up and put oil in it with a new plug but hey thats a brand new plug on my old car how did that get there. Nobody told me it needed a new plug. Most definately have it towed somewhere else and get a second opinion, and prolly a lawyer. so you can make them pay for the new motor your car is fixing to get.I just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?special price indeed.....if it turns out the dealer unintentionally damaged your engine they are insured for this and they should make good on a claim...they probably want to keep thier franchizeI just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?no you got burned

they left the oil out of your engine or didnt put the oil or drain plug tight

call your insurance or see if there is a consumer affairs

    that is state related

good luckI just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?i agree with everyone , they forgot something. if you go to the dealer to check your car. check the oil yourself. if it is clear and clean they added oil to it because they forgot something and do not want to be the blame. with a car w/ 65k on it even after an oil change the oil will still look black after the motor has ran for a bit. but if you check it and it is clear and looks like new oil they are trying to cover their azz!!!I just had an oil change at a Suzuki dealer and had a question.?yes, yes, yes...check the color and condition of the new oil....it will change colors quickly if it has been circulated....but thats just a way to get physical proof...if your car had a problem that would cause it to lock up before they changed your oil (you get it done on time too right?), they would've told you about it

What do you do to make sure you are getting what you pay for?How many of you use an oil change service?Todvango ... No, I've not used Jiffy Lube more than a handful of times in my life. I have a regular mechanic who is:

?Competent (never have to return to correct or redo any work he does)

?Fair priced (half the hourly rate the dealership charges)

?Honest (brings you into the service bay to show you what's going on and the service bay is in full view of the waiting area.

It also helps to ask a question or two and have a clue as to what's going on so you can check the work that is done.

I once needed to have a tensioner changed, but couldn't go to my regular mechanic. After the work was done and my car returned to me, I started the engine, lifted the hood to take a look, and the new tensioner was not working at all; the serpentine belt flopped around all over the place. Fortunately I immediately caught that and they replaced it, of course.

As for Jiffy-Lube, I do NOT go there because:

    ?They're way over-priced

?They used to try that gimmick where they showed you the color of a lubricant on a white card to talk you into ordering service you didn't yet need.

?Unless you tell them otherwise, they take stuff apart, want to show you a slightly dusty filter, etc., to talk you into getting service you didn't ask for and may not even need.

?Their 3,000 mile oil change recommendation is a farce, I feel.

I say this because by Jiffy-Lube's standard, you'd be changing your oil twice as frequently as the dealership's recommended maximum oil change frequency. While I don't wait until the maximum, I don't panic when I've gone 3,000 miles on an oil change, either.

I often wondered to myself why the big disparity between Jiffy-Lube's recommended mileage limits and the recommendations of the auto manufacturers. So I visited the Jiffy-Lube web site on one occasion long ago. A big banner greeted me: %26quot;Change your oil every 3,000 miles,%26quot; but there was a footnote saying the 3,000 mile recommendation referred to heavy service vehicles such as those used in dusty locations, mostly stop-and-go traffic, very hot weather areas, and vehicles that tow trailers. Great, except later they just dropped the footnote and tried to make it seem you must change your oil every 3,000 miles. Sorry, but I'm not going for it.

Furthermore, they USED to boast about using Pennzoil, a brand I happen to like. Now, though, my local Jiffy-Lube charges extra for Pennzoil.

Yes, I've seen this video before on YouTube. Thanks for a great catch and service to us Answers members.

P.S. ?I should add this additional comment: Not all Jiffy-Lube outlets are dishonest. However, if the corporate headquarters unreasonably pressures their outlets to increase sales, this can only invite the corrupt practices reported in the investigative report.

Also, if they don't give the public the clear impression that the dishonesty is being promptly, firmly, and effectively dealt with, even their long-time customers are likely to walk away.

Making sure the name Jiffy-Lube is not associated with dishonest practices is crucial; it's also the only way to prevent the honest outlets from needlessly suffering too.

It's up to you, Jiffy-Lube.How many of you use an oil change service? There are some oil change places where you can actually look through a window in the lobby to see what they are doing.

-All of the oil changing technicians are trained to try to sell you a new air filter and other items. You can get them cheaper at WalMart or Autozone.

-Most standard oil changes now go for $35 and up.How many of you use an oil change service?I assume the best way to know you're getting a deal is to find a good honest shop. Of course, the only way you know that is by word of mouth and sometimes trial and error.

I personally take mine to the dealership. They've yet to try to upsell me or rip me off yet.

Of course, the best way to guarantee it's done is to do it yourself. I have taken my car to Jiffy Lube before. They used to ALWAYS try to sell me an air filter. Once I changed the filter myself just before I went in. I drove 5 miles to the oil change place and they told me I needed a new air filter. We had a nice discussion about it that day.

I usually go to Wal Mart now, they are reasonable and when they do try to sell you an extra part it is at a real price, not 3 times normal retail like Jiffy Lube. How many of you use an oil change service?Myself I watch what they do,if they don't let me I go to another shop. How many of you use an oil change service?Ive seen that video, I've also heard that Ford has discovered one of the big chain oil change places has defective oil filters.
