How to do an oil change on jeep?

i have a 1997 jeep wrangler 2.5L 4 cyl and if i dont do an oil change myself it will never get done. Was just wondering how to do it.How to do an oil change on jeep?Having jockied a lot of oil in my day, here's my reccomendation:

1 Open the hood, remove the oil filler cap, place it near the hood latch. (i put it on the latch so you cant close the hood with it there, you'll never forget to put it back on that way)

2 Grab your oil catch pan, get under the Jeep. Using a 15 millimeter wrench, remove the plug on the oil pan to drain the oil. Once the oil has drained (just dripping, not a constant stream from the hole) reinstall the plug hand tight. Dont crank on it real hard, just get it tight.

3 Put your oil catch pan under the oil filter, and from the TOP side of the engine, reach down between the engine and passenger fender well, and unscrew the oil filter. The oil is going to run down the side of the engine block and get all over the control arm, you really dont want to be laying under it, rolling around in dirty oil. Make sure that the rubber o-ring (gasket) on the oil filter is not still attached to the engine, it must come off! If its still on there when you install the new filter, the new gasket wont seal and when you fire it up, you will pump tons of your new oil out of the engine onto the floor, in no time flat.

4 Smear a little fresh oil on new oil filter gasket and install the new filter hand tight, you really cant overtighten it by hand, give it a good twist.

5 The Jeep 2.5L takes 4 quarts of oil. I like to run 10W-30 in the summer and 5W-30 in the winter. I live in wisconsin, the 5W makes cold starts a little easier. You can run either. Slowly pour in your 6 quarts of fresh oil, and reinstall the oil filler cap.

6 Start the engine, check under the Jeep for leaks, if you see anything leaking, shut the car off immedatley and find out why. If you have no leaks see step 7.

7 Shut the engine off, let it chill for a min (top off you washer fluid, check your air filter, coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid and power steering fluid) Now check the oil level. It should be right at the very top of full, not over, not under. If not, find out why.

8 Remember all the oil that ran down the engine and suspension?? Wipe it all off. I like to hit it all with a little brake clean, it rinses off oil very well. Dont forget to to reset you service light (if equipped) and write out an oil change sticker, cause you'll forget.

Dont forget to properly dispose of your used oil and filter. How to do an oil change on jeep?you get a pan to drain the oil in, a wrench to loosen the oil bolt from under the car,

drain the oil, add new oil and replace the oil filter also since you're under the car.

If the gas in my car finishes sooner than usual do I need an oil change?

I don't remember how long ago I had an oil change. Usually I keep track but my dad changed it without telling me when he took my car to get new tires. I explained to him about the gas and he says, %26quot;it's an old car what do you expect.%26quot; F.Y.I. I have an 89 honda civic. It may be OLD but I know my CAR when it's acting different. Wouldn't you?If the gas in my car finishes sooner than usual do I need an oil change?Probably needs a tune up.If the gas in my car finishes sooner than usual do I need an oil change? You may need more maintenance then just an oil change.

A lot of different things can cause your MPG to go down and an oil change may or may not be part of it..

But you should start with the standard maintenance and check it off until you find what is causing the loss:

Your dad is right in that you need to consider how much extra you are paying for gas versus how much extra you want to throw into repairs on your car that is otherwise working fine and how long you intend to keep your 21year old car.

Your regular maintenance should take a look at

Oil Change, Air Filters, PCV Valve, Tire Pressure, check the level and quality of all other fluids, clean MAF and throttle body, perhaps throw in fuel injector cleaner additive (Gumout or Redline or Amsoil)

Then after that things may start getting more expensive if you want to start inspecting and/or replacing

Alignment/Brakes, SparkPlugs, other sensors. If the gas in my car finishes sooner than usual do I need an oil change?to answer your question: NO, But keep your oil changed, everyone has their own opinion of how often, but I go 3000 or not more than 4000 between oil %26amp; filter changeIf the gas in my car finishes sooner than usual do I need an oil change?check all: tire air pressure, air filter, change oil, any leaking, fuel line are over the center of the vavle cover(usually), hard skinny piped lines, anchored down, smell around for gas?

change spark wires and plugs, get additive for gas to burn deposts, that stick in valve galleries, causes seeps, during normal driving

best i can doIf the gas in my car finishes sooner than usual do I need an oil change?Oil changes have nothing to do with gas mileage (oil weight will have some effect on it however). You could need a new air filter or a tune up. The thermostat could not be opening correctly causing the computer to feed more gas to the engine thinking that the engine is not at operating temperature.

How often do i need to change my oil when i use 100% synthetic?

i have recently purchased a 2007 mercury, milan, premier. at my first oil change i told the dealer to use 100% synthetic oil. when do i need to have the oil changed? they are telling me the standard 3000 miles. i thought that when 100% synthetic oil was used that the life of the oil lengthened. Please help. I want to do the right thing. How often do i need to change my oil when i use 100% synthetic?I agree with pbleek. The 3,000 mile oil change has been ingrained in our heads for generations. Every few years the API releases new oil quality designations (currently SM for gasoline engines) but there is no change in drain intervals!? And yes, drain intervals in Europe are much higher. Check this link for interesting facts on extended oil drains: http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=14

With dinosaur oil, heat and oxidation quickly take their toll. The high thermal and oxidative resistance of the synthetic molecule keep it from breaking down into sludge and varnish.

    Look into Amsoil:

XL line of synthetic oils: 6months/7,500mile drain interval (this drain interval is most likely what your owners manual says)

original Amsoil synthetic oils: 1year/25,000mile drain interval

Series 2000 Amsoil 0W-30 severe service: 1year/35,000mile great for police and taxi service

For your car you can go with the XL 5W-20 (6month/7,500), but I recommend the 1 year formula in the 0W-20 weight.

Don't let the dealer intimidate you on warranty issues, check this out: http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?zo=14

I really dont think there is a set standard amount of miles/time for when you need it changed, just a general guideline. I have seen people use 5w-30 Mobil1 and go for 10k miles at a time with no problem, but thats a risk I wouldnt take. Find out what oil brand they used and go from there with your research. In Europe people go with 15,000 km oil change intervals, they drive way faster and cars have to last the well past 300,000 km. (cars are not as affordable as in the US)How often do i need to change my oil when i use 100% synthetic? It's really all personal preference. You can still change it every 3000, but if yer gonna pay the extra bucks for the good stuff why not wait the extra 3000? It's usally standard to wait 5 or 6000 to change with synthetic. How often do i need to change my oil when i use 100% synthetic? It sounds like you are one of those people that know more than the dealer, don't you know the answer? How often do i need to change my oil when i use 100% synthetic?well the boxster comes with moble one full syn. and they say every 15000 now they spend a bunch on research and developement so i would go atleast 10000 to get your money out of the oilHow often do i need to change my oil when i use 100% synthetic?you are absolutely right if you 100% synthethic in the car im sure you can go at least 7500 miles between intervals. How often do i need to change my oil when i use 100% synthetic?Different oils claim different change intervals. Ask your dealer what brand oil they used and go from there. Personally I don't care if it is regular or synthetic oil I would still change it every 3000 miles.

When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message will come on. Change the engine oil as soon as possible within the next 1 000 km (600 miles). It is possible that, if driving under the best conditions, the oil life may not indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset.

If the system is ever reset accidentally, change the engine oil at 5 000 km (3,000 miles) since last oil change.

To reset the Engine Oil Life System, do the following:

Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.

Slowly fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.

The reset is complete when the chimes sound and the CHANGE OIL lamp goes out. If the lamp stays on and no chime is heard, repeat the reset procedure.

    Turn the key to OFF.

If the CHANGE OIL lamp comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Usually 3 Months or 3000 miles which ever comes first.

    Maintenance Schedule

If you want to be an informed customer, you have to start by reading your vehicle's manual. The manual recommends a maintenance schedule for your car's make and model. Do you have the owner's manual? If you don't, you could buy one from a car dealership that sells your type of vehicle. Your parts department could help you by ordering the manual. Your glove compartment is the best place to keep your manual.

    Do you have a clear idea about your driving habits? Automobile manufacturers have divided the maintenance requirements into two categories: %26quot;Normal%26quot; and %26quot;Severe.%26quot;

What are normal driving conditions? Highway driving in dust-free areas comes under normal driving conditions. Do you know that dust could block your air filter and PCV filter?

    What are severe driving conditions?

    Check out the following:

    Driving in cold weather

    Dusty driving conditions

    Trips less than 10 miles

    Staying idle for long periods

    Stop-and-go city driving

    Towing a trailer

If you strictly follow your vehicle's maintenance schedule, you could save money on replacing and repairing prematurely worn parts. If your car is running properly, you don't have to spend a lot of money on fuel consumption either. You could carry out the inspection of your belts, hoses and tires by yourself.

I let my car go too long without an oil change. Should I change it again in 1000 miles to be safe?

It's a '95 Mazda Protege, and it was 8000 miles since the last change, I just changed it the other day. I know that's a terrible idea, and I was wondering whether I would be doing any good to change it again soon, in case the new oil I just put in is going to get dirty quickly, considering how long it had been. Or, is there something else I can do to try to minimize the damage I've done?I let my car go too long without an oil change. Should I change it again in 1000 miles to be safe?Ok...I work at a oil and lube shop and I think you should change it earlier and go ahead and pay for an ENGINE FLUSH service.

We sell a BG product that comes in a kit. We check the oil level on the car to make sure it's full than add the cleaner to the vehicle and let it run for 15 minutes or so.

Than we shut the car off and pull the plug and let the oil and cleaner drain out. Than before putting the plug back in we flush it with a qrt or oil to make sure all the sludge and carbon build up comes out. Than the plug gets put back in and we add the oil and an oil conditioner that protects the engine from future sludge build up.

We recommend that the service be done every 30,000 miles or whenever the customer goes to long on the Oilchange. (over 3,000 miles.)

After you get this done it would be a good idea to put the oil condtioner in every other oil change to keep it clean until it's time for the next engine flush.

When you go for your next oil change ask for a BG engine flush. I provided a link if that helps. This service helps, I do it on my own car.

My car has been acting weird since my oil change?

The radio/cd speakers have static now and the ignition has been slow to start a few times. I can't imagine what an oil change has to do with this, but this didn't happen until right after the oil change.

I called the dealership and they said it has nothing to do with it etc.

Is this normal? And if so, how can I get rid of the static in my once pitch perfect speakers? My car has been acting weird since my oil change?Sounds like you need an alternator- if it's cranking slow, either the battery's getting weak, or not charging fully. A failing/ failed alternator diode will give you electrical noise, cause the alternator to undercharge, and can also drain your battery, depending on how it fails. I doubt it has anything to do with your oil change, unless they soaked the alternator with oil, and hit it with a hammer a few times. You need to go to a shop, and have them test your battery and charging system. My car has been acting weird since my oil change?when i once got my alternator pulley sorted it caused a static buzzing sound from my speakers, but never on an oil change they must have accidentally hit something to trigger it off. My honest opinion you will never find the cause. But as for the slow to startthere isn't too much oil in the sump, check dipstick when car is cold to make sure it's at the right mark if it is then maybe something electrical is on it's way out and may be causing the static speakers. It could be you're alternator too.

How often should I change oil on a 2008 Hyundai Elanta GLS?

I am doing 70 miles a day. It ends up being once a month I need to get my oil changed at the mechanics recommended intervals. It is getting so expensive to do this every month. Can I extended this out to more mileage then the recommended 3000 miles intervals. These are all highway miles. Normal conditions. How often should I change oil on a 2008 Hyundai Elanta GLS?You could get away with every 5000-8000 miles if you aren't what is considered a severe driver. But 66% of all drivers are. to be safe just change every 3000-4000 miles it is worth it. 20 dollars here and there is nothing to compared to the price of blowing a rod and having a complete rebuild all because you wouldn't change your oil.How often should I change oil on a 2008 Hyundai Elanta GLS?Some oil manufactures give a time limit as well as a mile limit in which you should change your oil. I would compare it to your owner manual and see which of the two is the shorter and go off of that one. It is a lot cheaper to change the oil than to change the engine or part of the engine especially if you take it to a mechanic to get fixed.

On a side note I would also make a suggestions to keep a log book on all of your maintenance, repairs and maybe your gasoline consumption. When you go to sell you vehicle later it sells a lot easier, you might be able to get more money out of it, plus it gives the next owner a record to go off of if he/she needs some repairs done. How often should I change oil on a 2008 Hyundai Elanta GLS?To be safe, change at or around 3,000 miles or 3 months like you always hear. It's better that seizing up a motor. I live in New Jersey and I don't know where you're going to get your oil changed but most places only charge $18 to $25 where I live. Or you could save even more money and do it yourself for about $14How often should I change oil on a 2008 Hyundai Elanta GLS?With quality oil and filter, you can go 10,000 miles on an oil change with highway driving. Its stop and go driving that breaks down the oil because moisture forms in the engine from heating and cooling. Im not sure if I need certificates for oil changes or how to go about getting one. What should I do first? I have worked in the automotive field for 10 years and I know alot about auto repair. Im just not sure what i have to do legally. I've already done my business proposal and I have investors and a location. Now what?? Help me....What do i need to do to start an oil and tire change business?Your going to need a lot. First off you are going to need a building with service bays, Lifts , or pits to change the oil in. Secondly you will need tires, and again lifts and jacks to change tires with. You will also need a machine to balance tires and rims. You will need bays to rent out as well. You will need courtesy vehicles to pick up and drop off customers. You will need buffers, many chemicals, hot water extractors, vacuums, ladders, water tanks and much more to detail cars. You will also need permits and employees which aren't cheap. You need to train your workers because no one is going to come to a business and trust their car to someone off the street w/o any certification. You also need ways to dispose of the oil as most states and countries have strict laws on those type things. Overall a business like this will take a lot of money time, and effort to start.

How much should an Oil Change cost for a 2006 VW New Beetle Convertible?

I used to own a 2001 New Beetle, I never payed more than $25.00 for an oil change.

I recently had my oil changed in my 2006 New Beetle, and it cost me $75.00. Was I taken advantage of or does this price sound correct to anyone else? They told me my car used a %26quot;special%26quot; oil that would be around $50 or so, then they said I had to have a special oil filter that I'm guess cost around $25.00 Turns out, my special oil is not really that special. Its synthetic castrol. What do you all think??How much should an Oil Change cost for a 2006 VW New Beetle Convertible? The harsh truth is this is an accurate number for a fully synthetic oil change.

Many shops mark up the price of the oil and filters A LOT! On top of that you are paying for labor. Yes you can get them a little cheaper elsewhere but expect to pay around $60-$80 for a full synthetic oil change.

BTW even with synthetic dont go more than 7500 miles tops before an oil change, most recommend 3k-5k miles.

You can do it yourself for about $35-$40, if you don't want to or can't and go to a shop to have your oil changed, ask them what they include in their oil change that makes it so much. Sometimes they add cleaners that increase the cost but are not neccessary and you can get a lower %26quot;package%26quot; that would just be oil and filter and labor. How much should an Oil Change cost for a 2006 VW New Beetle Convertible?I just had the oil changed on my 2007 Jetta and it cost me 68.00 dollars!! Talk about high dollar! I dont think I will do that again!

Thanks you guysHow to do oil change for snow blower?Look under the Carburetor, usually you can see where the engine is bolted/mounted to the machine. There should be a plug on the bottom of the engine block.

Look at this picture ...... http://i2.ebayimg.com/04/i/08/66/55/80_1

look just above the top of the tire and in between the engine mounting bolts and you will see the plug that drains the oil...... There may be one directly opposite on the other side and it may have an extension tube to make it easier.

Once you drain it you will need about 3/4 of a quart of 10w-30 motor oil to refill the crankcase. How many miles overdue can i be for an oil change?

The required oil change limit in the owners manual is MERELY A GUIDELINE, its NOT exact, and it states this in most manuals.

You can EASILY exceed 3-5k oil change limits, as long as your car is in good operating condition and the oil dipstick sample doesnt come up in the Black Color Panel.

There are actually people with 100+ miles in their truck who NEVER changed their oil, they only changed their oil filters....and Technically this is possible since most Motorcraft filters filtrate down to 1-3 Microns I believe.

(dont quote me to those exact numbers, but the filtration is very good.)

However I would never do this, you should definately and OBVIOUSLY change your oil.........I was ONLY making a simple point.

DONT worry if you go past your oil change date, its NOT a big deal at all....however check the dipstick anyways.

If your driving an older car, I WOULD change the oil, since your going on a long distance trip.

If you own a newer vehicle....just check the oil, and you'll be FINE.

How often should I change my oil?

2003 Corolla....the owner's manual says to change the oil every 4,000 miles, but when I get my oil changed anywhere, the sticker always tells me that my next oil change shoudl be in 3,000 miles...

What should I do?How often should I change my oil?Believe it or not the average oil change is done around 3500miles, the manufacturer wants you to change oil around 3-4000miles, your local dealer/lube shop wants you to change it at 3000miles.

The manufacturer wants your money up front but they will %26quot;take%26quot; care of any problems as long as you do your fair share and keep up the maintenance on your car, hence the warranty.

The dealer/shop wants your money for life in the form of repeat business hence the customer service and having you change your oil at 3000miles.

All of this is also dependant upon what type of oil(synthetic or normal) and the useage that you put on your car. If you drive hundreds of miles per day then you change oil more frequently than if you only put a few hundred per week.

You can also go by time, every 3 months. How often should I change my oil?In normal use every 5000 miles is plenty. Your dealer is simply trying to make money on service you don't need. If you check your owners manual, it probably says every 7500.How often should I change my oil?Who makes the most money off of your oil change, the car manufacturer or the lube guy. Go by the book. How often should I change my oil?It depends on how you drive and what type of oil - synthetic oil will last longer between changes - you will be okay whether you change at 3, 4 or 5k. It's up to you. Change it more often if you rack up those miles in a short time. How often should I change my oil?we got a '07 caliber in jan. dealer suggested every 4,000 miles. i would go with the owners manual suggestion. How often should I change my oil?I would definately go by the book unless there is a problem with your car. I get mine changed right around 4000 miles, but i check it often. When it gets too dirty i change it (or right before 4000 miles, whichever comes first).

I also change it if i have driven a very long distance (say on a family vacation out of state)- but that is also so they can do a double check on my car to make sure it looks fine.

They put that sticker on as a suggestion- but i truly am not sure if there have been studies to prove that it is any better for your car in the long run vs following the manufacturers directionsHow often should I change my oil?Yes city driving is hard on cars all the stop and start traffic, every 3,000 miles with new filter. How often should I change my oil?my personal opining is two get your oil changed every 3to 5 monthes, it also depens on how for or how much driving you do a day.How often should I change my oil?Every 4k miles was good when you had a brand new car. As you get higher in mileage you should boost it and get one done every 3k miles. I have a 95 with 181k miles and I get one done every 2k miles, just to keep it fresh. Thats all.

Also. They found that changing your oil more often keep the emissions cleaner... %26quot;Global warming%26quot; stuff. You want to keep your car as clean as possible to lessen the emissions your car makes. How often should I change my oil?Depends on the weather and how many miles you drive.

With many short trips and very hot and cold weather I'd think 3 to 4000 miles is good. If you live in moderate climate and do more highway driving then maybe 5 to 6000 miles. Modern fuel injected cars don't contaminate the oil as quickly as older cars. Sometimes the only time anything gets checked under the hood is during an oil change. Going 6000 miles without a quick check is pushing your luck. How often should I change my oil?they tell you at those oil change places to come back in 3,000 miles so they can make more money off you and the rest of those folks that believe they know it all ----- which they do not .... your Toyota book has the correct info and if you follow the book and do the maintenance that TOYO says/// you and yo ride will both be happy for many miles.. probably one thing that is not in the book is this ::::::: when you need a BRAKE JOB you should do the works and change out the brake fluid -- this will save you money in the long haul and good brakes are cheap insurance ( to help you prevent a wreck)... :::: use the Valvoline or Castrol brands of oil and not Q State or those cheaper labels ... it is worth the few bucks more..............How often should I change my oil?Newer car requirements for oil changes is every 5,000 miles. On older vehicles it is 3,000 miles. You did well by checking your owners manual. How often should I change my oil?Forget the sticker.

If the manual says 5,000 miles - and the owner's manual is likely to be conservative - then a dealer expecting only 3,000 miles from the oil is probably using the wrong oil. The oil specification will be a code number in the manual or should be available from the dealer. The code is more important than any particular brand.

There is one legit reason for using oil with a shorter period and that is where the service intervals are far apart, but the driving conditions are tough. My VW Golf had 15,000km intervals. Because of the very dry, dusty conditions, my mechanic suggested 7,500km oil changes, i.e. an extra change inside the minor services. He could have used oil that would reach 15,000km, but it was a good policy to have the extra check. (My Citroen has 20,000km [12,500 miles] intervals.)

An oil change is not difficult to do yourself. And don't forget to check the level of your oil regularly. Don't rely on 3 or 5,000 mile servicing.

Oil changes can usually be delayed a bit. As long as the oil level is normal, there's not much risk. However, major servicing like timing belts and water pumps are time/distance-critical and you will NOT save money by driving another 5,000 miles over the limits. It may bring tears to your eyes. How often should I change my oil?contrary to popular belief the dealership didnt make up the 3000mile or 3 month rule it is ther ebecause oil loses its viscosity after this long and is not helping your engine anymore. How often should I change my oil?If the owner's manual says 5k, then do what it says. 3000 miles has always been the go-to measurement, and isn't a bad one to use. There is nothing bad that can happen from changing your oil too often, although it's terrible to wait. How often should I change my oil?3000 Miles or 3 monthsHow often should I change my oil?it all depend's on where you live and what the weather is like. If you live some place that has a lot of dust and the weather change's alot 3000 miles, or if it's really hot 3000mile's.How often should I change my oil?I always change mine every 3,000 miles, it's the best way to make your engine last and not burn oil, the oil is the life blood of your engine, take care of it.

Should I change my oil or wait for the tune up?

I have a Hyundai elantra 2000. The check engine light came on 2 days ago. and I have to do the oil change this week. Should I wait to take it to the mechanic to check the light and do the tune up? Is the oil change included? The place I take it every 3 months to change the oil doesnt do the tune up..... so I guess I should wait until next week that I get paid, should I? and how much is for a tune up and check the engine light?Should I change my oil or wait for the tune up?Guessing that you keep the oil changed regularly, not a problem. Your biggest fish to fry right now is that check engine light. You should get to that promptly, like now! Don't let a small problem become a big one!Should I change my oil or wait for the tune up?either way, mechanics are going to rip you off. you probably want to wait because tune ups always include an oil change and it would probably just save you 20-40 bucks. tune ups depend if there is anything wrong, including your spark plugs and oil filter, which i'm sure they will change because they can, so it will probably cost almost 100 bucks or so.Should I change my oil or wait for the tune up?You could prob. wait. Your not going to many miles on in one week. Might as well just get it all done at once.

At 5000 miles since last reset, the Maint Reqd light will stay on solid.

It's just a reminder by miles that you are due for the next scheduled maintenance. It is not smart (doesn't go by time, or do any oil analysis), just a mile counter. Usually that is an oil change/tire rotation: http://smg.toyotapartsandservice.com/

Should your dealer forget to reset it, or you go to an independent mechanic or DIY, you can reset the light yourself.

The odo-button dance procedure to reset the light is listed in Page 122-123 of the US 2004 Prius Owner's Manual (Section 2-5 %26quot;Operation of Instruments and Controls: Gauges, Meters and Service Reminder Indicators%26quot;, item (j) in the %26quot;Service reminder indicators and warning buzzers%26quot; section). Is it better to change your own oil or have it done by the service station?

I have an '06 Chevy Trailblazer that's almost due for its first oil change (5,200 miles). I'd like to use a very particular type of oil that I'm sure they won't use at the service station (Mobil Newer Vehicle Synthetic Blend).

My biggest problem is that I've never changed oil before. Does anybody know of a site I can check that will provide me with instructions on how to do this detail?

Also, what's actually involved in rotating tires? Is it putting the front tires in the rear and vice versa?

Thanks very much for your kind input. I appreciate it.Is it better to change your own oil or have it done by the service station? There is no %26quot;better%26quot; involved; it is easier and more convenient to have the oil changed at a service station, or, better yet, at the dealer's. I would recommend that you bring it to the dealer's, as that way, there will be a more permanent record of the vehicle being serviced (which MAY make a difference if and when you need Warranty work done).

In addition to the problems involved with changing your own oil, you're also faced with disposal of the used oil (you can't just dump it anywhere or put it in the garbage), plus there's the filter with which to contend. You may need a wrench dedicated to removing the filter (strap wrench) and of course, you'll need the wrench that fits the drain plug.

You also need to have a grease gun as there are probably at least a few zerk fittings that need to be greased.

All in all, I'd say, %26quot;Leave it to the dealer to service the vehicle%26quot;. If you want a certain type of oil, just buy six quarts or however many it requires to fill the crankcase, and watch the mechanic to ensure he actually uses your oil.

As far as rotating the tires, it is more than just swapping front to rear; you also have to cross them. The right front becomes the right rear, the right rear becomes the left front; the left front becomes the left rear and the left rear becomes the right front. Again, it's better to have a professional do it, since you'll need a set of jack stands, a level area where it is safe to raise the vehicle and besides, it's a time-consuming job. Good luck!Is it better to change your own oil or have it done by the service station? If I were you I would have my oil be changed by a mechanic and ask them how to do it.Is it better to change your own oil or have it done by the service station? It's always better to get the service done by a professional, and it doesn't cost much actually...Is it better to change your own oil or have it done by the service station?Since you do not know how to change the oil or rotate you tires.....go to a PROFESSIONAL to get them done. You can buy your own oil separately and take it with you for the service, they will use it. However, they probably won't charge you less on the oil change. Oil changes on Chevys should be done EVERY 3,000 miles (not 6,000) and tire rotation should be done every 5,000 miles!! Tire rotation isn't just putting the front on the back and vice versa. Sure, you can go to a website that will tell you how to do it but......is your BRAND NEW vehicle that you are paying BIG BUCKS for worth ruining because you %26quot;think%26quot; you know what you are doing?? I have a Chevy trailblazer and I take mine to either the dealership or Big O Tire. I get charged about $20 - $25 for the oil change (and they check all your other engine fluids) and the tire rotation is worth about $20 (and I KNOW how to do BOTH!!!!) think of it this way, if they mess it up, THEY pay to fix it....if you mess it up, YOU pay to fix it!!!!!Is it better to change your own oil or have it done by the service station?I have 2006 Nissan Sentra Spec V R Type and I am a auto technician I NEVER change my own oil. I take it to the dealer so they have a record of the maintainance if something else should go wrong. If there is a problem with the engine and you don't have perfect records and correct gm parts they won't warrenty anything in the engine. Is it better to change your own oil or have it done by the service station?Service stations use low prices on oil changes to lure in customers (hoping they will come back when major work needs to be performed). I would take advantage of those low prices and let a service station perform the work... just don't let them talk you into extras. Good synthetic oil (Mobil, Valvoline, etc) usually costs about $5-$7 per quart and the filter is probably $5-$10. Keep that in mind when getting quotes. I would call several of the local service stations and get a quote for comparison... make sure you specify which oil you want or they will use the cheaper stuff! Also, tell them you would like to watch the work being performed. If they give you some BS about liability issues and only mechanics being allowed in the shop... call another shop. An honest shop will at least let you look through a window into the shop as the work is performed.

I believe the Trailblazer requires use of synthetic oil (as most newer vehicles do). You may even contact the dealer and see if a service plan came with your vehicle when you purchased it. The oil change and tire rotation may be free! The oil specifications and tire rotation procedure should be included in your owners manual. Most tires rotations are front to back... but some tires require a criss-cross patern.

Good luck!Is it better to change your own oil or have it done by the service station?I would rather change my own oil, but I only drive old cars that don't cost $100,000. In your case, you'd better just get it done. It's easy, but if you screw up, you'll most likely ruin your engine.

How often do I need to perform the Oil & filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?

I Have a Subaru Legacy sedan 2001. On my last Oil change, I replace from natural oil to synthetic oil. If I use synthetic oil, How often do I need to change the Oil %26amp; filter of my car???How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?Every engine is in different condition. If you really want to know how long you can go between changes, you need to have an oil analysis done by someplace like Blackstone Labs. It's cheap and they will give you a detailed printout of what's in the oil and how long you could go with it. Otherwise just use the manufacturers recommendation. They do way more research then anyone here so don't listen to online advice. It's not their car they don't really care. Just because I go 6000 miles between changes, doesn't mean your car will like the same. If you don't know how to see over time what interval works for your engine, listen to Subaru. How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?Depends on the oil you used. Typically Subaru tells you that every 3750 miles you should change the oil. Follow the manufactures specs and you shouldn't have any issues. How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?Oil filters are only good for 3,000 miles. Just use regular motor oil and change it every 3,000 miles. I love it when people wonder why the motor is tarnished up and throwing codes even if they switched to Mobil 1. I use Mobil1 high mileage which says it is good for 7,500 miles, so I am being a little conservative. How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?I bought my 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback (2.5 litre) new, and have been using Valvoline Durablend synthetic/natural oil mix in it from scratch (As recommended by the Dealership where I bought the car). I change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles. The owner's manual calls for a 7,500 mile interval. At 139,500 miles my Subie neither leaks nor burns a drop of oil between changes. I have had to do absolutely no repairs to the engine.

Now, I do put Mobil 1 in my Porsche 911 Turbo S, but then that's the single recommended oil for Porsches. And, you know, that car cost as much as six Outbacks. With Mobil 1 and a Porsche filter, their recommended interval is every 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?You should always change your oil and filter at the same time. With that said, you should change your synthetic oil every 3k-5k miles. You can get away with running it for longer then that, but just to be safe I would stay in that range. Oh and when going synthetic make sure you go full synthetic and not blend. Blend can have a very wide percentage range of actual synthetic in it, and if you are gonna use blend you mine as well just use regular oil.How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?I personally have never heard of changing the oil beyond 3,000 miles. On that note: It is usually a rule of thumb if you will to get the oil(be it dinosaur made or man made) changed every 3,000 miles at the least. That includes the oil filter too. Never skimp on the good filters for your oil either! The better your filter, the cleaner your oil will be! Also, when you change your oil, check to see if the oil coming out of the oil pan feels as if it's got grit in it. If it feels anything other than oil, you should get the engine checked out properly by your mechanic as soon as possible! How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?I would say every 3-4k miles. and try to use rotella t 5w-40 if you live in a warmer climate. How often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?i have an 08 WRX and use Mobil 1 synthetic and change the oil every 7k miles. I also have a cold air intake which means I never have to change the oil filter. Now, your car is not high performance and you may not need synthetic since it is more expensive, and it may not be worth getting a cold air intake, depending on the miles and how long you plan on keeping it. If regular oil, 3k miles or a little more and it should be fineHow often do I need to perform the Oil %26amp; filter change for a Subaru legacy sedan 2001.?IF you are using Mobil 1 EP, it can go as far as 10k before I, personally, felt the difference.

Typical Syn. Oil can go around 5k to 8k, depended on how you drive the car, is that a daily or a track racing car...

The filter usually changes when you do the oil change.

However, you need to look at the labels on the backside of the Syn oil to make sure it is Synethic instead of a Blend of bulk/syn. There are some manufacturer claims that their Syn Oil is Synethic but the test limit did not even pass the standard tests...so watch out.

What can I do about a faulty oil change?

I just got an oil change on my van at Wal-Mart. The van was driving with no problem before then, but now the engine's revving up on it's own and not even pushing the van. There's a slight possibility that there was something else wrong with it, but considering the way it's been driving before then, I doubt it. How can I prove that it was the fault of the automotive techs at Wal-Mart and receive compensation for repairs and legal fees if the case needs to be taken to court? What can I do about a faulty oil change? It depends on the state you are in. In Michigan you are suppose to try to settle any dispute with the repair facility, if a conclusion cannot be made there, there is a department of the Secretary of State that will arbitrate a settlement. My answer is go back to Walmart and if they don't make it right then go to the Secretary of State or its equivalent in your state and register a complaintWhat can I do about a faulty oil change?Unless you have no oil at all, none of your symptoms would be due to an oil change!

Sounds like you have a transmission issue! What can I do about a faulty oil change?Never go to Wal-mart again. They ****-up tons of cars. What can I do about a faulty oil change?your problem has nothing to do with the oil change. You might check the spring return on the accelerator to see if it is broken but that still has nothing to do with oil change. What can I do about a faulty oil change? You can't. First of all, there is no indication that what Walmart employees did is responsible for your van running poorly. An oil change is pretty straight-forward, so I doubt this is when something happened.

And in all honesty, you can't even change your own oil, if you were to go to a judge or a lawyer with this claim, they'd ask how you know, especially if you're not mechanically inclined. It's going to take more than a hunch and a coincidence to convince someone Walmart is responsible. What can I do about a faulty oil change? You don't give the age of your van ... does it have an APP (Accelerator pedal position) sensor?

I see alot of cars in my job at [a nationally known rental agency] and the symptoms you describe have come up a couple of times, in both cases it was this sensor.

It might just be that the oil change was a coincidence! Wal-Mart may not be the problem! Have your mechanic give your van the once over, including computer diagnostics (keep the receipt, just in case I'm wrong) if the sensor is there (and bad) have it changed and see if the problem goes away! What can I do about a faulty oil change?Oil change problem is unlikely -- have it checked out by a mechanic.

How often should I oil change?

I know the standard answer is every 3000 miles or 3 months. But I've heard that newer cars or highway miles are different. Thanks! How often should I oil change?your toyota is listed at 5-7000 miles in those conditions... synthetic oil can about double your change interval, provide better MPG and protection for your motor. i generally don't go beyond 6K even with synthetic although i know you can.

I've looked in the owner's manual, maintenance and warranty manual and online but no luck -- the manual only mentions the 3.0 and 3.6. I found somewhere that the initial oil change takes place at 7,500 miles or 7.5 months but no clue how frequently after that.

No guesstimates please and provide your source if possible. How often do I have to change the oil for a 2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5i?many vehicle manufacturers are extending their recommended service intervals to 5,000 or 7500 miles these days, but as a prfessional mechanic I still recommend an oil change every 3000 miles or 3 months on ALL makes and models. These extended service intervals are used as a selling point on new models, and I have not yet seen any evidence that the vehicles are actually equipped to handle this over thier lifetime of use. Also, if you check the manufacturer service schedule you will notice it differs based on wheter you fall under the %26quot;normal%26quot; or %26quot;severe%26quot; driveing categories. The %26quot;normal%26quot; category is generally reserved for people who almost never drive their car and 80-90 percent of actual vehicle owners fall under the %26quot;severe%26quot; driving schedule, which generally still is a recommended 3000 mile or 3 month service interval. How often do I have to change the oil for a 2010 Subaru Legacy 2.5i?Your best source for that information is your Owner Manual but the Edmunds maintenance guide will also have the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule (use the drop-down menu to select your year, make, model, engine, etc):

Do you have to wait long for an oil change at a mom and pop mechanic?

I usually go to places like Jiffylube to get an oil change where I don't have to wait long. How long do I have to wait at one of these mom and pop mechanics. Usually, I see a lot of cars stuffed outside their garage. So do I have to wait long and come back the next day?Do you have to wait long for an oil change at a mom and pop mechanic?make an appointment and you should get in quickly.Do you have to wait long for an oil change at a mom and pop mechanic?Yeah, I'd leave it for a couple days.Do you have to wait long for an oil change at a mom and pop mechanic?please if you want an oil change, ill do it in 10 or less if you want it done right, 20 minutes. if you want it done today, ill do it but not sure if i can find the filter wrench. the cars you see are cars that need minor to major r%26amp;r and they dont have anything to do with you other than if the bays are currently in use. usa survived way longer than with jiffylube.support mom and pop by all means, they can even give you references. oil change might cost more, but i guarantee that if your a regular customer your engine work will get discounted somewhat for being a good customer. break it ill smile and so will you. heck my labor rate for my shop is less than $30 an hour. i work flat rate and havent seen a flat rate manual in 20 yrs..Do you have to wait long for an oil change at a mom and pop mechanic?I would call the shop directly and ask. My own shop is very busy, but if a customer asks I can usually work in a waiter oil change. It does depend on the time of day and the work load, though, so only the shop can adequately answer your question.Do you have to wait long for an oil change at a mom and pop mechanic?I would trust a mom and pop or any new car dealer before I'd ever consider the non-mechanics at any chain fast oil change shop.

Have you ever watched the oil being drained from your crankcase? How many minutes do you feel the crankcase needs to drain? Is the motor hot or cold? What brand of oil filters do they use? Are you fussy about the brand of motor oil? Are you sure they poured the right viscosity back in?

You can't beat yourself if you do your own oil changes. You're the boss. Hot oil drains faster. You can let it drain for as long as you want (longer is better.) Pick a good brand of oil filter instead of no-name junk at fast oil change places. You have the opportunity to chose any brand of motor oil of the correct viscosity.

Any new car dealer would be a good second choice.

Jiffy Lube just went belly-up in our town. We still have Mobil, Quaker State, Valvoline and Havoline fast oil change joints.

How difficult is it to change my own oil?

I would like to perform a simple driveway oil change. I have a 2003 Chrysler 300m. I am 16yr. old and plenty of friends to help if needed. I am wondering how difficult it is to do?How difficult is it to change my own oil?Required items:

    Oil drain pan

New oil filter (Verify that the filter is specifically for your model vehicle, engine)

5 qts oil (check the owners manual for the type of oil)

    Jack and jack stands

    Wheel chocks

Open end wench or crescent wrench

    Oil Filter wrench

Funnel, if you are sloppy pouring oil, or if you are dealing with the 5qt bottles of oil.

    Rags or paper towels

    Tips:

Do Not Block your only other means of transportation while you do this job. You could need a ride if things go wrong.

    Remember: Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey.

Your local car parts store may provide a place to rid yourself of the old oil.

    Procedure:

Locate the oil filter. (Depending on it's location, you may be able to remove it from the top rather than from underneath the vehicle)

    Chock the rear wheels

Raise the vehicle using a jack, only enough to place the jack stand and access the oil drain plug, and filter.

Place the oil drain pan under the vehicle.

Remove the oil drain plug, ensure that the drain pan is placed to catch the oil.

Remove the oil filter, ensure that the drain pan is placed to catch the oil. You will need the filter wrench for this

Install the new filter. Verify that the new filter is correct. My way is to take the old oil filter and the new one and touch the rubber gaskets of the two together. This accomplishes two things: 1) verifies that the gasket is correct 2) applies a small amount of oil onto the new filter gasket.

Tighten the filter hand tight. My preference is to use the filter wrench and give it an extra quarter turn.

Reinstall the oil drain plug. wipe off any dripping oil.

    Refill with oil:

Remove the oil filler cap, put in 3 qts of oil. While the oil is going in keep an eye under the car for signs of a leak

Check the oil level. Remove the dip stick, wipe it clean, reinsert and remove it again, it should show a qt or more low, if so, add another qt and check the level again. The level should be less than a qt low.

Replace the dipstick and oil filler cap. Again check for leaks.

Start the engine, the oil light will stay on for generally 10 - 30 sec. IF THE OIL LIGHT IS STILL ON, TURN THE ENGINE OFF. Check under the car for signs of a leak. Allow the engine to run for about one minute, if all is going as planned. Turn the engine off, check the oil level. It should be approx 1 qt low. If so add the 5th qt of oil.

Good LuckHow difficult is it to change my own oil?depends on how high your car is other then that if you know what to do it is easyHow difficult is it to change my own oil?Not that hard. Make sure you replace the washer for the drain plug, and make sure the new filter has a coating of clean oil on the gasket. Also, make sure the new filter is hand tightened down, do not use the filter wrench to tighten it.How difficult is it to change my own oil?it is just about the most basic car maintenance procedure there is.

Just search the internet or find a tutorial or 2 on the supplies and procedures you need to do.

Be sure you have everything you need before starting, otherwise you will make things a lot harder then it needs to be.How difficult is it to change my own oil? It's simple enough. You just have to make sure you know where to take the old oil. You don't dump it in the gutter or down the drain. How difficult is it to change my own oil?jack or put it on ramps don't forget to put stand under it when using hydraulic jack. locate oil pan pull the plug. when it starts drizzling out run the engine for ten seconds and immediately shut it off. however this is my procedure for an old Chevy truck and running low oil may damage your more precision engine. take your wrench to the filter if this fails shove a screwdriver through the oil filter and use it as leverage. when putting on your new filter rub some old oil on the new filters seal. tighten this as tight as you can by hand. then return the plug to the pan and add your oil through the filler tube not the dipstick.

good luckHow difficult is it to change my own oil?It is really quite easy. You will need to buy a few things first. A set of Ramps (versus using a jack which can fall and drop the car on you) which you can get at Wal-Mart, Pep Boys or almost any Auto Parts Store. Or you can buy Jack Stands also although the ramps are faster and take less time. A filter removal tool, also available in the same places, and a socket that is the exact size of the drain plug in your oil pan. Adjustable wrenches end up rounding the corners on the plug and making it useless. An Oil Drain Pan. A new oil filter and 5 quarts of oil which meets your owners manual recommendations. Also a mechanics creeper to roll under the car on.

You want the engine warmed up so the oil flows more freely, plus it will drain better but be careful you do not burn yourself on the oil.

Drive up on the ramps without running off the front of them. Set your parking brake and also put a block of wood or rubber wheel chalk behind one of the rear tires. Take your drain pan with you, and roll under the car. Put the drain pan under the oil pan plug, loosen it and take it out being careful not to drop it into the oil and to try to keep from letting the oil run down your arm and burn you. The plug should have either a nylon or fabric washer (do not loose it), although some just have a wide shoulder and seal metal to metal. After it stops dripping, replace the plug and tighten it snugly. Then slide your pan under the oil filter, you may want to dump the oil into another container first so the pan is empty again. Use the oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter and unscrew it. It will be hot because it is full of oil. Use a rag or something to keep from burning yourself again. Unscrew it and turn it upside down in the pan so it can drain. With a rag wipe off the ring around where the filter screws on. Take some clean oil on your finger and rub it around the rubber gasket on the new filter. Now thread the new filter on and tighten as tight as you can with your hands. Now take the filter wrench and put it on as close to the top edge as you can and turn it about 1/2 turn more. Tighten is clockwise and loosen is counterclockwise as you are looking up at it.

    righty tighty, lefty loosey.

Now that you have the plug in and your new filter on, get out from under the car and pour 4 quarts of new oil into your engine. (Normally takes 5 quarts with filter) Start it up and let it idle and go back under the car with it running to check for any oil leaks. If no leaks, get out, back the car off of the ramps. Removing the wheel block first. When it is on flat ground, shut it off wait a few minutes then check the dipstick. It should be on the low mark with is one (1) quart. Add the 5th quart of oil and you are finished. Write your mileage and the date down so you remember when you did it. You may also want to buy a Grease gun, and some grease cartridges so that you can also lube your car. If you are doing your own oil changes and not having it done at an oil change facility you car will not get greased unless you grease it. You should grease it everytime you change the oil. You can find do-it-yourself manuals to cover your car at auto parts stores, and they will show you where the grease fittings are. It is a sizeable investment when you first buy everything you need, but by the 3rd or 4th oil change, it will have all been paid for.How difficult is it to change my own oil? It's not too difficult if you are not scared to get under the car. Just lift the car up on jack and secure with jack stands or spare wheels.

Make sure you have the proper size spanner or ratchet/socket to open the drain plug. The drain plug is in oil sump pan, which is usually black in color. You might also consider buying a filter opener, and make sure you match the new filter with the old one to make sure you got the right one. And clean the surface before putting the new filter and smear fresh oil on gasket of new filter before fitting in. Do not over tighten the filter; hand tighten it and then quarter to half a turn with filter gripping tool would do.

Get the car back on ground and fill the oil, start the engine, run for five minutes check for leakages and let the engine cool for 3 minutes, check the level and top up if required. Do not overfill.

Best time to drain the oil is when engine is moderately warm. Use gloves and safety glasses, ask a friend to watch but do not touch the car while you are under the car.How difficult is it to change my own oil?Step 1:buy oil and a filter (as well as an oil drain pan if you don't own one) (ask the salesperson to find out how many quarts you need if you're not sure, I also recommend substituting a quart with Lucas Oil Stabilizer)

Step 2: Locate and open the oil cap on your engine

Step 3: jack your vehicle up

Step 4: Locate the oil drain plug at the back of the oil pan (underneath the engine), position the oil drain pan below it and slightly back (the oil will have some pressure behind it at first from the weight of the rest of the oil). Remove the drain plug and wait until the oil only drips out, then replace the drain plug.

Step 5: locate and remove the oil filter (usually located adjacent to the oil pan on the driver's side, an oil filter wrench may be required. Place the oil drain pan below it before removing it as it will leak some oil when removed)

Step 6: replace new filter and hand tighten ONLY.

Step 7: lower vehicle from jack and refill engine with oil (goes in the oil cap you removed at the beginning), and replace the oil cap. Run the engine for 5 seconds to circulate new oil, then check the dipstick (normally yellow. Remove, wipe off, replace then remove again to check oil level) and if its at the 'full' mark, you're done.
